Course Description:
Physical Education classes will focus on you as an individual and on how we can help you learn to live a healthy, productive, and happy life while you are in high school and once you have completed your high school years. We will do this through a series of individual and team activities designed to allow you the opportunity to discover activities which will be beneficial in accomplishing the above goals. Each activity will be a venue to better fitness and therefore helping in such areas as stress management, cardiovascular strength and endurance, muscular strength and endurance, and general well-being.
General Policies:
Every student is expected to participate daily. We will work with every student to ensure every opportunity is given for success in each class.
Showers are available (not mandatory).
Students may not leave the gym after dressing until the bell rings for dismissal.
Students must remain inside the gym until after the bell rings.
Students must wait for teacher’s approval before playing with equipment.
If there are items that do not belong to you and have been left in the locker room, please turn them into the teacher.
School locks will be provided. If your lock is lost or damaged you will be billed $8.00.
Uniform Policy:
A FCHS PE uniform is required for class every day.
The total cost for a uniform is $20; the shirt is $10.00 and shorts are $10.00.
These uniforms should not be defaced in any way and must have your name on both pieces.
Sharing uniforms will not be allowed.
If you do not have your uniform, please see your PE teacher to receive a rental.
Students are allowed to wear leggings or sweatpants only under their PE uniform.
Students must also have athletic shoes for class every day. Wearing any type of slip on shoes will result in loss of points for the day.
Uniform Rentals:
If you forget your uniform, you will be required to rent a uniform from your teacher. The cost is $.50 per piece or $1 for the entire uniform. There will be a checkout sheet for you to sign out the borrowed uniform and it must be returned at the end of the hour or the student will be fined $10.00 per piece.
No Dress Policy
If a student refuses to dress following the appropriate guidelines, the student is subject to the following consequences:
1st Offense: 1 Detention
2nd Offense: 2 Detentions
3rd Offense and beyond: In-School Suspension
Cold Weather Uniform Policy:
Students will always need to have their uniforms on. In the event of cold weather, students will report to their attendance spots in their uniform and after roll, may put on sweatpants and sweatshirts if they have them with them. Students will not be permitted to return to the locker room or their hall locker to get a sweatshirt.
Locker Room Security:
Please do not bring large amounts of money to class.
Always lock your locker. This includes when you come up for P.E. class.
Do not share your locker or lock combination with anyone.
When closing your lock, double check to make sure it is closed and turn the dial so no one may pull it open.
If you are having a problem in the locker room or if something has been stolen please inform your teacher immediately.
Phones must remain in locked lockers while in class
Grading Scale and System:
Grading Scale
90-100 = A
80-89 = B
70-79 = C
60-69 = D
59 and below = F
Each student will be graded independently. Your grade is solely your responsibility. We will use the following guidelines for our grading process. Each day is worth between 20 and 50 points.
Participation = 80%
Final Exam = 20%
*There is a performance based final exam in this class at the end of the semester.
Participation:
Participation is considered the most important element of the entire class and therefore will make every effort to allow every student the freedom to achieve success in this class. Get dressed, try to the best of your ability, and you will feel much better about yourself. Students will lose points for refusing to participate. If complying with participation becomes an issue, students will receive a discipline referral. As long as students are medically cleared to participate in any way possible, they are expected to dress.
Excuses:
If you are sick or hurt, you must bring in:
a note signed by your parents or the school nurse. This note will excuse you for up to three days. Anything longer, you will need a doctor’s note.
a note signed by an administrator or counselor.
a note signed by your doctor. Please make sure this note has a return to P.E. date.
**Please understand that students excused or unexcused do not get points for that day. Your points are based on participation and if you are not here to participate then you do not get points even if you have a medical note that says you are not allowed to participate. Excused absences may be made up with a report, but unexcused may not. To make up the day(s) that you missed you have two options:
Make up the day you missed by doing a report that is over a physical education or health
related topic.
Do not make up the report, get a zero for that day you missed, and keep the grade you have.
A document and instructions for make-up work is posted on Google Classroom. Completing this document and following the directions outlined will allow you to earn the points you missed for that day. If you have a medical excuse that extends two weeks or more, please talk with your teacher for an alternate assignment you will have to complete. This is a very easy assignment to complete and we hope you choose to make it up. Make-up reports must be submitted within one week of the students’ absence.
Varsity Athletes:
Students who are scheduled to participate in an athletic event, later in the day, will not be excused from class. All students will need to participate in class every day, including fitness days. If the teacher feels the activity for the day is too strenuous, and may hurt the students performance ability for the scheduled athletic event, an alternate activity may be assigned. If a student refuses to participate, it will be treated as a no dress for the day and referral will be given.
Roll Call/Tardy:
It is your responsibility to ensure you are in the locker room by the time the bell rings and in your assigned seat by 5 minutes past the bell. If you are not in the locker room by the time the bell rings or you are not in your assigned seat in time, you will be counted tardy. This includes being in the restroom 5 minutes past the bell.
Safety:
Each student has the right to enjoy their physical education class in a safe and clean environment. Every effort will be made to ensure these rights.
Students may not cause any other student injury on purpose. Please understand because the nature of the activities injuries may occur. Students must report any and all injuries immediately to the teacher, regardless of the extent of the injury.
