Grading Practice for Academic Assistance class:
Formative Assessments 50% (such as general education class work, IEP's goals work, assignments created by the teacher for class timework)
Organization & Behavior 50% (such as notebook, agenda check, work time management, following direction, obey all class rules, responsibilities)
Formative and Summative Assessment for IEP Goals:
Formative and Summative Assessment Assessments are two categories: formative and summative. Formative should be considered "practice" and Summative should be considered the "beginning and end performance".
Formative assessments occur during the process of learning or the development of a product. Formative assessments may include observations, quizzes, initial drafts, homework, responses to teacher questions, and practice assignments. Students use the information gained from these assessments to enhance learning. All formative assessments are related to the standards for the course and are administered to help students practice the skills they need to master before the summative assessment is given. The information gain from these assessments will be recorded in the student Progress Report.
Summative assessments are used to determine the degree of success at the beginning of or at the end of a unit of instruction. The goal is to evaluate student competency as it relates to the set of standards addressed in instruction. Summative assessments may include tests, exams, final drafts, projects, research papers, major performance, observations, and teachers' reports. The information gained from these assessments will be recorded in the student IEP and determine the annual goals for student.
The Academic Assistance Teacher will be available for tutoring before and after school by appointment.
