The MEH Student Services team is excited to begin their series of a variety of parent/guardian information sessions this school year. Our Huskies are crushing the Mary Ellen Henderson Middle School food drive competition. We have collected so many food items for Welcoming Falls Church, Share Yourself Food Pantry. Team Himalayas have really come back from a slow start earlier in the week. The last day of the drive is Monday and the winning team will receive outdoor time during Academic Advising in the near future. However, the real winners are all the families we are helping with our donations.
Do you have an aquarium with too many Fancy Guppies or Common Mollie's? Dr. Wu-Rorrer's class would be happy to adopt some of them! The 8th grade Sustainable Design and Engineering class are starting their agriculture and biotechnology unit where they will learn to identify freshwater species, conduct water quality testing, and determine male/female. Most of the tanks will be native species from the Mid-Atlantic regions (approved Virginia DWR permit) but two 75 gallon tanks will be dedicated for the guppies and mollies due to their rapid growth and colorful markings. Please contact Dr. Wu-Rorrer at wurorrerr@fccps.org if you are interested.
6th Grade families,
As we wrap up another fantastic week here at Mary Ellen Henderson Middle School, I wanted to take a moment to share some highlights that truly captured the joy and spirit of our Huskies.
Walking through the hallways and stepping into classrooms, it has been a delight to see our 6th graders fully engaged in their learning. Whether collaborating on group projects, solving challenging problems, or discussing new ideas with enthusiasm, their curiosity and determination are inspiring. They remind us daily of the bright future ahead!
One of the most magical moments this week came when the first large snowflakes of the season began to fall. Watching through the windows, our students couldn’t help but pause and marvel at the winter wonderland forming outside. For a moment, they were like 2nd graders again, faces pressed to the glass, full of wonder and excitement. It was a beautiful reminder of the joy found in small, unexpected moments—and a chance for all of us to appreciate the simple magic of childhood.
Thank you for sharing your amazing children with us. Their energy, curiosity, and kindness bring so much to our school community. We are grateful to partner with you in their journey.
Warm regards,
Rob Carey

Hello 7th and 8th Grade Families,
As Thanksgiving approaches, I want to take a moment to share my gratitude and appreciation for our students, staff, and families. I feel so fortunate to work with such a caring and thoughtful community.
Our staff’s dedication to students and their success is truly inspiring. The partnership and support from parents make such a positive difference in our school, and I deeply value their involvement. Most importantly, our students are simply the best - seeing them laugh, learn, and grow every day is what makes this work so rewarding.
Thank you all for being part of this incredible community. I wish you and your loved ones a joyful and restful Thanksgiving!
