Thanksgiving Feast

By: Sebastian Reiners

When you walk into our cafeteria on one of the days of our Thanksgiving feast, you will hear nothing but happy talking, smacking lips and the smell of some great food. Our feast was on the 16th and the 17th of November. For our feast we got ten extra minutes to eat our lunch. You had a choice of ham or turkey with lots of great sides to choose from, either one was probably delicious. Even if you brought food from home I hope you enjoyed that. Maybe you invited someone who you wanted to eat with.

We are about to get into our week off of school, then a few weeks later we will have a nice, long holiday break. We are lucky that we got to do the actual celebration this year because in the past couple of years we have not been able to do the real feast due to COVID-19. I hope that you enjoyed our CLES Thanksgiving feast, and remember to be thankful!

Veterans and the Armed Service

by: Tim Zook

  • Veterans are members of the military.

  • The military consists of five different groups.

  • These groups are called the Army, Navy, Air Force, Marines and Coast Guard.

  • Veterans Day originated as Armistice Day on November 11th 1919.

  • Veterans Day is the anniversary of the end of World War I.

  • Veterans Day became a national holiday in 1938.

  • Veterans Day pays tribute all American veterans-living or dead- but especially gives thanks to living veterans who serve their country honorably.

  • President Dwight D. Eisenhower officially changed the of the holiday from Armistice Day to Veterans Day in 1954.

  • In 1968, the Uniform Holidays Bill was passed, which moved Veterans Day to the fourth Monday in October.

  • The law went into effect in 1971, but in 1975 President Gerald Ford moved the holiday back to November 11th due to the important historical significance of the date.

CLES Annual Food Drive

by: Ava Idowu

The food drive was when we donated food for people that can’t afford it. For example, if you did not have lots of money and you spent it on a house you would not be able to get food. The food drive was November 14th-18th. We took the food to the Real Life Center! We collected canned food, boxed food, non-perishable food, and stuff like rice boxes, oatmeal, and canned beans. Thank you for asking your parents and helping Crabapple Lane Elementary to raise such a great donation. The Real Life Center was thankful for what we did to help others!

boosterthon

We enjoyed another great Boosterthon this year as we worked together as a team to earn over $25,000 towards new playground equipment. As we worked hard to earn this money, we had prizes and rewards along the way. Some classes got to wear the pajamas to school, or have extra recess, or have a game day! Different classes could come up with their different rewards that they worked to. All the kids are very excited about this new equipment and can't wait for it to be installed.
