Please consider encouraging your child to enter the GASTC competition.
Teams can be 1 or 2 students. There are two separate grade bands: 3rd/4th and 5th/6th.
Mrs. Lewis & Ms. Pahl will review the applications and talk to students to make sure they have a clear idea for their project.
Mrs. Lewis & Ms. Pahl will choose and assign students to categories by September 25, 2023. Parents and students will be notified.
We will have 2 coaching sessions WITH students to talk about your ideas as well as what you have created and improvements that could be made. (tentative dates: 10/2 & 10/16)
Evaluations of the projects will be conducted on October 30, 2023 using the rubric to determine which projects qualify for County Competition.
Qualifying projects will advance to the Fayette County Competition on Saturday, December 2, 2023 at Rising Starr Middle School. (Students must be able to attend this event)

Projects for each category must be unique and cannot be entered in more than one category. Students can only participate in a maximum of 1 project, excluding the Programming Challenge.
Projects are to be designed and created by students. Some adult guidance is allowed, but it must be clear that all work entered by students was done by the students.
Students MUST document any work they did not create. In many cases, they will also need to receive permission and show documentation.
Tri-board displays are not allowed at the competition in any categories.
Students unable to present their projects, even due to illness, may NOT use "proxies." Only students that are part of the original, registered team may represent a project at the Tech Fair.
While we recognize that the world is more connected than ever, we cannot guarantee Internet access in the judging spaces and recommend that you have an off-line copy of any Internet based project. Judges will not penalize a project for not connecting to outside links.
*Programming Challenge is currently only available for 7th - 12th grade students.
Students should be prepared to explain and demonstrate the highlights of their project in no more than 15 minutes.
All projects will be judged by the following:
Documentation (10%): Did student include the required permissions, pre-planning documentation, pseudocode, flowcharts, storyboards, etc…
Complete and Functional (15%): Is the project complete and does it function properly?
Creativity (20%): Student’s creativity in the design as well as the oral presentation.
Understanding (25%): Student’s understanding and mastery of the software used. Higher points for software that requires a deeper understanding of the project category in categories like Mobile Apps, or Project Programming.
Intended Purpose (30%): The overall effect of the project and all of the elements within. How well do the elements work together to create the intended effect or serve the intended purpose of the project?
At the time of the judging, students will be required to:
Use the program or applications software to demonstrate their projects.
Demonstrate an understanding of the software as it relates to the project.
Explain the various aspects of the creation of the project.
Defend their choice of software for the project.
Provide the Project Documentation form, properly filled out, to the judge.
Answer judges’ questions about the project.
