Read Across America Week

by: Sebastian Reiners

Read Across America Week is celebrated every year on the week of Dr. Seuss’ birthday. Here at CLES we have fun during Read Across America Week, but it’s not something we made up. The reason it’s called Read Across America week is that all of America celebrates Dr. Seuss’ birthday. Some people celebrate just books, not all Dr. Seuss’ stories. Dr. Seuss is great but there are billions of other books that are just as good so we should celebrate all of them. Dr. Seuss was born on March 21904 in Springfield, Illinois. What is your favorite Dr. Seuss book?

Mrs Catlett’s-The Cat In The Hat

Sydney Mynatt, Kai Otsuki, and Ms. Adams- How the Grinch Stole Christmas

London Maihorn- Oh Say Can you Say?

Spring Book Fair

Our Spring Book Fair was in March and we had such a great time visiting the library to check out all the new Scholastic books and buy some new things to read.  Even the teachers had a great time shopping!

Dear Crimson

Dear Crimson,

It is getting towards the end of the year where we have to take lots of tests, which I am getting nervous about. I do not want to fail a test because it makes me feel sad and disappointed in myself. What can I do to stop worrying about my test and their scores?

From,

A nervous 4th grader

Dear worried fourth grader,

The end of the year can be scary because of all the tests. Sometimes, we feel like if we don’t pass them our lives will forever change. To be completely honest with you, nothing changes when you get a lower score. You may feel disappointed in yourself because you know you could do better. That just makes you have more determination for the next time. It is all just a learning experience where you find things you can improve on. It is okay to be nervous.  We all feel it and sometimes nerves are the best things for you. Do not get worried over the test because there is nothing to worry about. You have been learning and working on these things the whole year!

Love,

Crimson

New Playground Equipment

By : London Maihorn

Has your school ever gotten any new playground equipment? Well our school just did. We just got a  carousel, two platform swings and a climbers cage. All the students are loving the new equipment! We are proud to say that are students and their families participated in the Boosterthon which raised over $25,000 that went towards the additional equipment. The additional equipment is really helpful because not only does it provide more fun for the students but it also gives everyone an opportunity to expand as human beings. For example,  it helps to teach students to be patient and responsible because one student gets the opportunity to count 10 students on the carousel and that same student gets to set a 2 minute timer. For the two platform swings it helps teach the students to take turns and work things out. And last but not least the climbers cage. The climbers cage helps teach the students to try something new. For example if one student named Paulina [ just a random name] likes the climbers cage and plays on it everyday one day it might be full, so she will have to try something new. And trying something new might be scary, so she can practice overcoming her fears of trying something new. As you can see are new playground equipment is a worthwhile investment and we are very lucky to be at Crabapple lane Elementary School.
