Visual Arts research analyzes the primary source(s) first and foremost, however, secondary sources should also be used to provide support to the points raised. Where secondary sources are used, they must be used to support your own line of argument and not act as a substitute for it.

Visual Arts research should focus on the primary work being written about, but can also benefit from the use of questionnaires or interviews. Methodological approaches may follow one of these types:

Initial discussion and analysis of the theme of immigration in art. An investigation into the effects of migration, from China to Canada, on a selected artist’s work. The student must choose three to five works to identify and analyze specific themes of immigration.
