Ms. Melcher's Science Class Homepage

Welcome to the 2022-2023 School Year!

Teaching Philosophy: I believe that each of us is born with a curious mind. We are naturally inquisitive from a very early age and derive satisfaction from understanding the things we are curious about. As we grow, we learn to make sense of the things that our mind observes and to order our thoughts into coherent patterns that can be shared and discussed with others; it's how we build connections that lead to meaningful relationships! The things we learn in science class are things that we will return to over and over again in every aspect of life.

Science is not just about facts and statistics; it's also history and discovery and innovation-- something for every mind! Science is important because it teaches us how to think critically and make sense of the world around us. We become more interesting people by questioning everything, finding evidence to support claims and sharing our findings with others. The scientific community is a wonderful one to be a part of and all one needs to do to join is ask the question that burns within them.

About Me

My name is Mallory Melcher and I'm thrilled to begin my fourth year of teaching here at FBHS! After graduating from this very high school, I attended Sonoma State University for two years before transferring up to Portland, Oregon where I received my Bachelor's degree in General Science. During the decade I lived in Portland, I had a host of odd jobs including food service, retail, artisan crafting and child care. Ultimately I decided that science education was my passion so I moved back to my hometown in 2019 to actively pursue a career doing just that. A solid understanding of scientific principles is critical to our understanding of the world around us, so let's work together this year to learn and think like the scientists we are!
