The First Baptist Church of Sealy was founded in 1876 in nearby San Felipe before relocating to Sealy two years later. Led by Pastor Terry Wright, the church celebrated its 150th anniversary in early 2026.

Key Historical Milestones

• 1876–1887: Founded in San Felipe, moved to Sealy in 1878, and established a location near the Santa Fe Railroad by 1887.

• 1934–1956: After a 1934 fire, the church rebuilt in the late 1940s and added a new sanctuary and parsonage by 1956.

• 1973–1976 In 1973, the church extended it's property to corner of 8th and West St., which allowed for the addition of a temporary mobile home for classroom use, and the eventual Education Building campaign in 1976.

• 2000s: Following more than 25+ years of use, the church updated the Worship Center, Children's Area & Fellowship Hall in 2011, marking the most recent building project on the church property. 

• 2026: God is alive and doing a great work in our church today! While the above history shares the building campaigns, it does not show the countless lives that God has allowed to be touched by the ministry efforts of FBC Sealy.
