Learn about this week's theme and hear the story from Leviticus 25. It's about God's plan for work, play, rest, and fresh starts! There's even a super fun word that we use to talk about this type of compassion and justice: Jubilee! It's the perfect way for us to wrap up camp as we think about taking sharing compassion with the world.
This week Cynthia welcomes you to worship with some tips for going out into the world safely and with love. And Navi has some more friends to introduce to us!
Join Kristi as she leads us through yoga and movement to help embody compassion with the world!
Sally and Moop learn about fresh starts and compassion in the midst of quarantine. Learn along with them, and then fill out and color the sheets below! 🎒Some supplies for this activity are in your Camper Kit.
Spread some love with a heart basket! Cut around the two templates from your Camper Kit. Fold each template in half with printed lines facing inward. While keeping the paper folded, cut along the 3 inside lines.
Place the right-hand template under the left-hand template. Rotate the two templates so that they are at right angles to each other.
To weave, begin with the top strip of the piece in your right hand. Slip the folded strip around and through the strips on the left side, rather than over and under. Do the opposite with the next strip, slipping it through where the other went around and around where the other went through.
Once all strips are woven and the basket is complete, you may choose to cut an extra strip of paper to attach as a handle for your basket.

Click here for original post and instructions.Map it out! If we want to love the world well, we need to know about people and places around us. So let's start with our neighborhoods and cities! Look at a map with your family. Find where you live on the map. If it is a city map, find some of the places you regularly visit – your church, your school, your friends’ houses, etc.
With your family, talk about (and find on a map) the places where you were born, the places you have lived, and where your family and friends live. Who lives the farthest? Who has lived in the same home all of their life? What surprises you about learning where you live or have lived? Where would you love to go
For an extra challenge, you could try drawing a map of your neighborhood and praying for each part as you add to it.
Have you ever wondered what compassion sounds like? Ruthie used her skills to create some beats in order to help us hear the beautiful sound of compassion. (And we get to see behind the scenes magic!) Happy listening!
Writing letters in the mail can be a real way to spread compassion to others, and you don't even have to leave your home to do it! We have two opportunities you can choose to participate in if you are interested. Check them out below, and let us know if you have questions.

Pastor Gretchen has a relationship with friends who help facilitate a pen pal program with immigrants at the Adelanto Detention Center. Talk with your mom or dad if you want to learn more and be assigned someone to write to as a way to show compassion and love. Your family can email Pastor Gretchen for more information and to get paired with someone at Adelanto.
Parents: Click here for more information about Adelanto Pen Pals. You can also email Pastor Gretchen at gretchen@fbcpasadena.com.
Look for a Rancher card to come to you in the mail this week! It will have information about someone you can build a friendship with via mail (yes, real mail!). After you read your card, decide if you or your family wants to become a pen pal with a Rancher, and you can start writing a letter or preparing a package to send. You can learn more about Rainbow Acres here or by watching this video. Email Pastor Lindsay with any questions and to confirm your decision to partner in the pen pal opportunity.
Myra shows us how to draw a vision for compassion and a fresh start in our world! Have fun turning your illustration into a puzzle that you and your family can put together as you pray for God to help us make a fresh start where it's needed. Grab your puzzle and some colors and draw along with Myra! 🎒Some supplies for this activity are in your Camper Kit.
Grab an old t-shirt and turn it into a shopping bag with Ruthie! You'll save the shirt from the trash and you won't have to use a plastic bag at the market. You could also do like Ruthie and use your bag to carry stuffed animals or anything else. This project is compassionate toward the planet because it reduces waste! Watch the video below to learn more about the effects of plastic bags. ↓
Cynthia shows you how to have compassion for creation by caring for the birds in your neighborhood. You can make a bird feeder and a bird house out of everyday items. Yay for loving on the birds! 🎒Some supplies for this activity are in your Camper Kit.
We are excited to try this recipe that is popular in Nicaragua, where Saskia was born! Recipe is in your Camper Kit. Thanks to Zach for his help!
Show yourself and your neighbors compassion by putting a stained glass heart in your window! The side facing inside will remind you to show compassion to yourself, while the outside view will spread compassion to all who pass by! 🎒Some supplies for this activity are in your Camper Kit.
The back of your yard sign is blank for a reason! You can decorate it with a message of compassion that you want to share with your neighbors to bless them. Think about what you have learned about compassion and what you want to tell the world about God's love. Words and pictures are powerful ways to spread compassion!
Chip is joined by his friend Matt to give us some practical ways to show compassion in the world. Remember their tips when you go out into the world!
There are so many ways to understand and show compassion. We begin by noticing when others need compassion. Then we can ask God to help us show up and be brave. Compassion also means caring for and loving ourselves so we can trust our voices. All this helps us be present with each other along the way as we follow God’s lead. When we cultivate all these seeds of compassion, we become open to seeing the wideness and goodness of all God’s creation. We show compassion to the earth as a way of rejoicing in God’s abundance. There is enough! Our Compassion in Action will help us connect to the provision of the land. Below are some ideas to get you started:
Plant some seeds or plants native to your area and watch them grow!
Go meat-free for three days.
Learn about water systems.
Learn about composting and make a compost bin for your kitchen. Here's a place to learn how!
Repurpose old clothing to make new things, like a reusable bag from old t-shirts. Check out this site for ideas!
Learn about the eco-system in your backyard or neighborhood.
Make a “turn off the lights” challenge to save energy.
Check out worldwaterday.org to see how you can participate in World Water Day 2021 and ways in which you can help!
These seed bombs are a way you can spread love in your own yard and to someone else!
Supplies: flower seeds, construction paper or shredded recycled paper, blender or food processor, water, baking sheet
Tear paper into small pieces or use paper shreds. Put into a bowl and cover completely with water. Allow to soak for 20 minutes.
After 20 minutes (the hardest part is always waiting), squeeze the excess water out of the paper. Place the paper in a food processor or blender and pulse until the paper becomes pulp.
Mix seeds into your paper pulp and form into balls. Set seed bombs on a baking sheet and find a sunny place where they can dry overnight.
To plant your seed bombs, dig a small hole, drop one in and cover with dirt. Give as gifts to friends to share the jubilee!

We can be compassionate to others by communicating in ways that they can understand and by remembering that the language we speak is one of many (and some of you already speak more than one language, which is awesome!). Many people use sign language to communicate, and we have a sign language expert in our FBCP family! Kevin shared these two videos below so that you can learn some letters and words to sign. He used these for another class he teaches, and we are so grateful that we can learn, too!
Part 1: Our friend Kevin shows us how to sign the letters A to M! Join him and his friends as they learn letters and words in sign language.
Part 2: Kevin shows us the second half of the alphabet, N-Z. You can now learn the whole alphabet and some new words!
Our friends Anna, Sebastian, and Sofia shared some of their favorite recipes below. You could make some for your family and to share with others. Compassion is so sweet!
If you still need to color your mural, you have plenty of time! Check out Winston's example if you need inspiration.
There are lots of ways to pray, and coloring can be part of it! As you color your prayer sheet, think about the words and talk to God about where you see a need for compassion in the world. 🎒Some supplies for this activity are in your Camper Kit.
No copy of the flier needed - just tell your server that you are making your purchase to support the Friends In Deed fundraiser.
CPK Pasadena will be open from 11 am-10pm on Thursday. Some outside seating is available, as well as takeout.
In your first Camper Kit, there were five Daily Examen cards. Each card offers an opportunity to talk together about the day’s experiences and lessons. It helps us ask each other questions and remember to be thankful for the day. Have this Examen card with you when you’re sitting at the table for a meal or at bedtime. Take a few minutes to pause and share about your day. Begin by saying the opening line and the prayer. Then use the questions as a guide to reflect on the day. You can ask each other one question or all the questions. Taking time to remember what you felt and learned during the day helps deepen our compassion.
Happy Campers!
