For Parents

Dear Parents,

Thanks so much for clicking on the parent page of our Summer Tech Adventures website. Throughout the year in tech class, your child has been using the Google Suite of tools to make documents, organize their files in drive, create presentations, collect and organize data and collaborate with their peers. I think you would be impressed with what they know how to do.

I have elementary kids. I know that summer can be a time where they try new things, or it can be a time where they get bored of the same old thing. I hope that this website offers some new challenges that the students can try with the technology skills they've been gaining during the school year. And I hope that they will discover some new websites that will keep their minds inquisitive and learning. I chose websites that I thought the kids would enjoy and that I have found to be trustworthy. But the web changes all the time. We as parents need to be very wise and aware of the places our children go online. If something about a website seems wrong for your child or unsafe, please tell your child not to go there! Reinforce what we learned in class by talking to your child about what makes a website safe and reliable.

For the Google Apps challenges, I displayed a simplified set of instructions for the task. Your student may need some help to complete it, but try not to do it for them. Point them in the right direction. If you need help, there's a help option in the menu. I'm not looking for perfection or beautifully designed projects. These are meant for their enrichment and learning. If you work with them, you might learn something too!

I'm looking forward to seeing their projects!!!

Sincerely,

Sarah Taylor
