FAQ and Student Testimonials
My two proudest StationARTS moments were playing Oceans on the piano for Monse and Emily's convocation and playing at the gala last year. I was like, super nervous for both performances, but I actually think I did those pieces justice.
My favorite thing about StationARTS is being surrounded by so many creative and likeminded individuals who share my appreciation for the arts. StARTS is full of teachers and students who care and want to help you succeed.
Students should join StationARTS because it gives them space to fully immerse themselves in their artform while being surrounded by other dedicated students. StationARTS offers time to practice and improve one's skills, while creating a welcoming community that fosters growth.
Q: Why should I join StationARTS?
A: All students at BSHS have access to arts classes. By joining StationARTS, students also have access to our daily StationARTS Advisory classes. Students get 40 minutes a day with their arts area teacher to work on special projects, solo and ensemble performances, and auditions for college, Governor's School for the Arts, and honors opportunities. Students also get to attend our weekly convocations in the Auditorium.
Q: What is Convocation?
A: Convocation is our weekly student performance series. Every student in the program will perform or present once per school year. For music students, this is typically a movement from a concerto, aria, popular song, jazz, or small ensemble. Theatre students typically perform monologues or musical theatre numbers. Technical theatre students will present portfolios of their set/lighting designs, costuming, make up, etc. Visual art students present their portfolios, representing their most recent works in painting, drawling, sculpture, pottery, or digital works. Students in the audience also learn about artistic criticism - giving feedback to each performer/presenter. It truly is a weekly showcase of what makes our program great - the students!
Q: What is it like to go to Bryan Station High School?
A: Bryan Station High School is an amazing place. The first thing most people notice is our greatest strength - our diversity. We have students from 40 countries that speak over 40 languages. This diversity is represented well in our arts classes. Students at Bryan Station must also choose a career academy pathway. Each academies' academic program is well complemented by the StationARTS curriculum. Many of our academic core teachers are also artists, musicians, actors, and creative writers! It is very common for arts integration and arts enrichment activities to be found in our classrooms and curriculum throughout the building.
Q: Will I be ready to major in the arts in college if I go to Bryan Station?
A: We have had many students over the years successfully audition for college and conservatory programs, both in-state and out of state. Talented students who push themselves in our program have also received scholarships. We have alumni who have attended (or are currently attending):
University of Kentucky
University of Louisville
Eastern Kentucky University
Cincinnati College Conservatory of Music
University of Cincinnati
University of Arizona
Arizona State University
and many more
Q: What do I get if I join StationARTS? How is StationARTS different from just taking an art, music, or drama class?
A: You get to belong to a community of artists who are just as passionate as you! You also receive access to our advisory class, weekly convocations, dedicated time and advising to complete your FCPS Seal of Arts Excellence, and special performances and field trips.
