EV3 robots are approaching end-of-life and will not be sold after June 2021. We encourage you to purchase Spike prime robots as we transition.
FCPS follows the same rules and regulations as the Kentucky STLP SumoBot Competitions.
On the Day of the Event:
Teams must check in by the assigned time. Once the tournament has started, no teams can be added to the tournament bracketing.
Teams are responsible for making it to their matches. Every effort will be made to share information, but expect changes/variation to the schedule. If a team isn’t present for a match they will forfeit the match.
The FRONT of each SumoBot will be designated with a sticker at check-in.
This is a double elimination tournament. This double elimination competition allows each competing robot to participate in a minimum of 2 rounds.
The winners from the Winner’s Bracket and the Loser's Bracket will compete to determine a winner for each grade level.
Match Play
1. Each match will be limited to three, one-minute bouts.
2. The winner of a match is the robot that has won two out of three bouts, with each bout lasting no more than one minute.
Bouts
One team member from each team will place his/her robot in the center of the ring with their rear wheel(s) on the starting lines.
After pressing the start button, teams move away from the field so that the ultrasonic sensor doesn’t register team members.
At the start of a bout the robots must be programmed to wait 5 seconds before any motion is made.
Robots must move during the match. Robots that don’t move will lose the bout.
If during a bout the robots are entangled and wear and tear is occurring, both contestants can agree for the judge to reposition the robots in the starting position (without turning off or restarting the robots). In the event of a “judge-enacted robot reposition”, the time for the bout is paused (not reset), the remainder of the one-minute time limit is enforced. The judge will stop the timer - reposition the robots - restart the timer.
If the first two bouts end in a draw due to neither robot winning, the robots should begin the third bout using a different starting position (Example: starting front to front or facing the same direction).
Stalemates: In the case of repeated stalemates, the referee will determine a winner based on his/her judgment, favoring the robot taking the most offensive actions. It is advisable to have alternate programs to run to avoid repeated stalemates.
After check-in, robots cannot be modified (other than replacing parts that have fallen off at the end of a bout) or re-programmed. NOTE: this does not include changing the program used in between bouts.
What will result in disqualification?
abusive language or behavior by anyone associated with a team, including fans.
adding/moving/removing parts (or front sticker) after check-in
altering programs after check-in
program not including an initial 5 second wait period
manipulating either robot using external communication devices
