PLD Reads: It’s not just a slogan…

It’s a READING CULTURE.  Reading is fundamental in future success, so at PLD, we read.  We are a community of readers supported by teachers and administrators who read.  We have a strong library program, featuring a collection of over 17,000 items.  Check out these other helpful resources:

Kentucky Bluegrass Award Books:  The Kentucky Bluegrass Award (KBA) is a program designed to encourage students to read widely from lists of current, well-reviewed literature that reflects a variety of experiences and points of view.  Each year, a committee chooses ten books for award nomination, then students are encouraged to read and vote for their favorite selection.  Click to see the list for grades 9-12.

Herald Leader:  Thanks to the Newspapers in Education program, PLD has eEdition access to Lexington's local newspaper.  See librarian for login and password.

NewselaNewsela is an online platform that features high-interest articles on current events which can be selected in a variety of reading levels.

Lexington Public Library:  "Reading is just the beginning!"  Find access to books, databases, information about programs and events, and get online homework help.

Kentucky Educational Television Resources and PBS Learning Media:  Kentucky's network for public television programming , with thousands of resources in science, mathematics, health, history, social studies, and the arts.

OWL at Purdue:  The Online Writing Lab (OWL) at Purdue University has a plethora of free writing resources and instructional materials, most notably their MLA and APA citation guides.
