Pablo Alcala is the cinematography and video editing instructor at Frederick Douglass High School. He began teaching in 2017 after a career in journalism.


Teaching Philosophy

Mr. Alcala's goal as a Career and Technical Education instructor is to prepare students for professional life after high school. Most learning in class is done by way of work-based projects. Students in this pathway are expected to be accomplished visual communicators, critical thinkers, who are creative and can work collaboratively.

Experience

Prior to teaching, Mr. Alcala was a staff photographer for the Lexington Herald-Leader from 2001-2017. He began working with video in 2006 providing content for Kentucky.com. He earned bachelor’s of journalism in photojournalism from the University of Texas at Austin and also worked for the Vero Beach (FL) Press Journal and has interned for the Philadelphia Inquirer, Santa Fe New Mexican, Palm Beach Post (FL), Fort Worth Star-Telegram and Bloomington (IN) Herald-Times.
