“The Light in the Window is an original, 45-minute holiday play written for our students at Lexington Middle School. It takes place in the fictional Brightwood Community Center, where a group of kids and neighbors are preparing for the holidays while navigating real challenges like loneliness, hope, community, and what it means to truly see one another. The show is built as a series of interconnected vignettes — some heartfelt, some funny, all centered around compassion — and everything takes place under a single streetlamp and the warm glow of a window that never goes dark.
It’s a story about small acts of kindness and how a community comes together, especially during the times of year when people need connection the most. The play is poetic, grounded, and very kid-driven. Our students helped shape the characters, the movement, the staging, and even elements of the design, so it really feels like a piece created with them, not just for them.
