Gifted and Talented Audition Information - VOCAL MUSIC
Dear Parents/Guardians,
The Fayette County Gifted and Talented Program, under Kentucky Gifted Regulations, recognizes and formally identifies students in the areas of General Intellectual, Specific Academics, Leadership, Creativity, and Visual and Performing Arts. Students who are formally identified for Gifted and Talented services in any of these areas will receive gifted services beginning in grade 4 and continue through grade 12. The District Gifted and Talented Office will be coordinating with your elementary school to begin screening for students in grade 4 in the area of Visual and Performing Arts-Vocal Music. To be formally identified in the area of Vocal Music, a student must participate in your school’s audition process. In addition to the audition process, a minimum of 2 additional pieces of evidence that show giftedness must be collected.
Auditions will be held at your child’s school on ______________________________. The audition will consist of three parts:
1. Singing an age appropriate solo piece in any one of the following styles: classical, folk, spiritual or music theatre.
2. Echo rhythmic patterns with body percussion
3. Vocal exercises to check vocal range
Per the state gifted regulation, to be formally identified in the area of Visual / Performing Arts-Vocal Music, additional evidence must be collected to support this area of giftedness. One is a parent recommendation form. This form is for the parent/guardian to complete. Please answer the questions to the best of your ability, and return this document to the attention of your school’s GT Resource Teacher. The second form is for a teacher or other professional (voice teacher or any other individual, current or past, that has worked with your child in the area of voice). Again, this document must be returned in a sealed envelope to the attention of the school’s GT Resource Teacher.
IF YOUR CHILD IS INTERESTED IN AUDITIONING, THEY WILL RECEIVE THE FOLLOWING:
1. Rubric- will be utilized to score the student’s performance
2. Parent Recommendation form-please return this form directly back to the school
3. Teacher/Other Professional Recommendation form-please have this form completed by a non-family member and sent directly back to the school
The in school auditions will be the only opportunity this year for your student to be evaluated this school year. If you have any further questions or concerns, please contact your Gifted/Talented Resource Teacher at your child’s school.
Thank you,
District Gifted and Talented Department
