Students from Meadowthorpe competed in the First Epic Esports Expo at UK. Students competed in Mario Cart, Super Smash Bros., and Minecraft. Congratulations to our Super Smash Bros team who placed third in the district.
The two winners of the Meadowthorpe Oratory Festival, David and Sarah, were flown to Washington DC. to present their original speeches on stage at the Ford's Theatre.
This year the Meadowthorpe Battle of the Books team was resurrected. Our team enjoyed the competition this year, and we are already prepping for our return next year. This year's competition team: Rainie, Sarah Nur, Rian, Jules.
Congratulations to Gabe in Ms. Elias's class for winning the third annual Meadowthorpe Chess Tournament.
Congratulations to all of our students who competed at the STLP state competition this year. Meadowthorpe students had three level two projects and for the first time one level three project. Our studetns also participated in the Sphero Hero competition.
Our students had a busy day at SPARK this year. We four groups of students presenting projects, one group of students teaching others about Sphero robots, one group taking part in a live Minecraft challenge, one group competing in a Mario Cart Tournament, and finally two students completing in a live AI challenge. Congratulations to our mine craft team who came in third place and the showcase (Bully Shield) which also placed third.
Our students had the opportunity to work with artists from the Philharmonic throughout the late winter and early spring. Students learned to play the ukulele.
Meadowthorpe had a great showing at this year's District Governor's Cup competition. In addition to many individual awards we brought home the district championship!!! We also were proud to win the sportsmanship award for the day.
Meadowthorpe held our first oratory festival. Students presented original speeches to a series for judges from around the district. Two students were selected to represent Meadowthorpe in Washington DC later this year.
Our students learned more about various reptiles with a visit from the WAVE Foundation through the Newport Aquarium. We loved meeting the turtle, skink, and snake who came to visit us!
Our students presented what they learned about different cultures around the world to the other classes in our school.
GTAP visited Transylvania to see a the Nutcracker Ballet. We went to support many of our students who had roles in the performance!

One of our favorite activities every year is Colonial Days!
The Bimini Biological Field Station Foundation zoomed with us for a virtual field trip experience to teach us about their research within their shark lab.
We loved learning about a multitude of careers, interests, and hobbies from many of the parents of the students in our program.
We had a blast at Newton's Attic!
GTAP enjoyed a trip to Keeneland to learn more about the equine industry of Kentucky.

We traveled to Louisville, KY for an extended day trip. We visited the Belle of Louisville, the Kentucky Science Center, and the Frazier History Museum.
The Agriculture Bus and Miss Kentucky came to visit us.
Students researched an important figure and brought them to life in our Time Travel Turmoil project!
Students created their own businesses to put on the Entrepreneur Fair for our entire school!
Students researched different winter holidays around the world and presented their learning to the other classes in our school.

Lexington Children's Theater visited the students this morning to present "The Reluctant Dragon."
GTAP visited the Opera House to see a performance of "The Best Christmas Pageant Ever" presented by the Lexington Children's Theatre. We went to support two of our students who had roles in the play!
GTAP participated in Colonial Days the week of Thanksgiving Break to learn more about what life was like during that time period. Students rotated through various activities, such as making butter, playing colonial games, and acting like colonists.
The Mobile Planetarium from the Living Arts and Science Center visited our students to present a show called "Earth, Moon, and Stars."
Congratulations to Sarah on placing in the top four in the Fayette County monthly STLP challenge. Sarah designed a infographic that informs others about how to help save the enviroment.
Congratulations to Rubén for finishing in first position in the International Taekwondo Competition in Louisville.
Following our unit on the Native American Cultural Regions, our students had the opportunity to look at various artifacts from that time period with our guest speaker, Mr. Ryan.
GTAP visited Fort Boonesborough to learn about early settlers in Kentucky. Students were able to enjoy several demonstrations and reenactments during the day.
GTAP took an extended day field trip to Mammoth Cave National Park. Students were able to attend a geology lesson, hike, and explore parts of the cave.
