Clarify what your budget for the year is
If you've been keeping a running book order or need KBA Books, place those orders OR Start a back-to-school order
You'll need a Follett Titlewave, Mackin, Permabound, or Junior Library Guild account to build your book order
When you are ready to order: You'll create a Quote
When asked, the shipping and billing address will be FCPS LIR, 450 Park Place, Lexington, KY 40511
You'll sort by AUTHOR
You DO want processing
You will save this Quote as a PDF and send to Karen Goocey on the LIR Team, who can place book orders for you
Look at your Library space and refresh displays, signage, and/or bulletin boards as needed
Update Library website/social media
Clarify the rotation schedule or set up a way for teachers to schedule library time
Plan Book Fair dates, if not already scheduled
Update any Library passes, Information guides, Teaching information regarding Library, etc.
Outline an overall general plan for the semester - Library orientation, any Book Clubs, Promoting SORA, Battle of the Books, Staff engagement events, Teaching KYVL databases, etc.
Manage student circulation and shelving returned books
InterLibrary Loans (ILLs) including any holds that teachers may place for TRC book sets or items. While teachers can manage their own holds now, these requests still need LMS approval. When you see them (there will be a red number at the bell icon in the top right in Destiny, or you can go to Circulation -> Holds/ILL -> View Requests (button on the right side), you’ll click the link on the word “Unapproved,” change it to approved, then push save.
Send/Receive ILLs: To make it easier for the receiving school to see any ILLs, please use the “Ship It” option directly on the request, then send your item (put a post-it note with the student’s name on it in case). At the receiving school, be sure to click “Receive” and then use the “Check out ILL” button to assign it to the student.
Change out displays to keep them fresh (monthly/every other month)
KBA promotion/display/voting
Host a school-wide reading challenge or promotion
Continuous lesson planning to meet School needs
Collaboration with teachers/PLCs for opportunities to enhance/tie-in Library concepts
Book Talks/"Tastings"/"Speed Dating"

Send any books needing cataloging/Processing to LIR
FollettBound, MackinBound, and PermaBound books are guaranteed by the vendors and replaceable for problems like broken spines or pages falling out – anything involving the binding. You can send any of these types of books to Karen Goocey on the LIR Team for replacement, but please do not send more than 10 at a time. Follett has a specific form you need to fill out; the others have different procedures for replacement that Karen can help out with.
Weeding: Annually/Every other year
Run a Shelf List report from Destiny and filter to determine which books have not circulated in the time frame you choose (5 years is a good start)
Pull the books on the weeding list (the LIR Team can help with this!)
If discarded books are going straight into a box to be discarded, there is no need to mark out the barcode.
FOR ANY OTHER DISPOSAL METHOD (giving to students, teachers, donating, etc.), be sure to completely mark out the barcode.
Box up weeded books. Clearly label "Discarded Library Books" and send to the Warehouse.
Communicate Library events/updates/statistics with your teachers and SBDM
Collect as many books as possible, focusing on 5th, 8th, and 12th grade students
Complete annual Inventory (required by FCPS School Board)
Reflect on the year and note any changes for next school year
