Battle of the Books, 2022-23

Welcome to Battle of the Books

"Battle of the Books" is a book club for 3-5th graders that ends in a quick-recall style competition over the twelve books shown below. We will meet from 3-3:45PM on these Wednesdays, except for the December 1st meeting, which will take place on THURSDAY from 3-3:45PM to accomodate our discussion leader. FALL DATES:

How does the competition work?

Next year, we will make and have as many in-school teams as possible, and have several in-school competitions in a quick-recall style game. Towards the end of the year (March), we will take a test over the books below, and the students with the top three scores make up the team that travels outside of school. We will also pick one alternate based off the test scores. These students will compete against other elementary schools in the official "Battle of the Books" competition. There is usually a semifinal, and a final competition for the top teams in May.

Think of it as a CLUB, not a competition

Listen...only three kids end up on the team. It's not about the competition. It's about reading and discussing some great books, and of course, delicious meeting snacks. We will meet once a month starting in September to start talking about sharing in some great books. Make the team? Great! Don't make the team? Also great! It's about getting together, having fun, and reading books with friends. Hope to see you there.
