LIFE AT JUDGE
CELEBRATING SALESIAN WEEK
Every year, during Salesian Week, the Father Judge Community commemorates and honors Saint Francis DeSales, our patron. During the week, we recognize our Salesian Spirituality through the Salesian Seven as well as the praying of Salesian reflections in our Theology classes during the span of the special week. Our Salesian values are as follows: We believe, as did our patron St. Francis De Sales, that you should not wish to be anything except who you are and strive to be that well; therefore, a Salesian gentleman manifests a profound respect for God, himself, and all others in a spirit of humility and gentleness.
In addition, we believe each student has the capacity to develop his unique God-given gifts to his fullest potential. Also, we believe our sacramental celebrations promote the sharing and building of our Christian faith community. Furthermore, we believe the student who perseveres in the face of life’s challenges will succeed personally, professionally, and spiritually. Moreover, we believe parents, families, faculty, and other stakeholders work together to incorporate the ideals of caring, trust, and self-respect as we help our students reach and advance their goals.
Substantially, we believe our faculty is committed to modeling life-long learning skills as we prepare students for post-secondary opportunities through rigorous and engaging 21st Century instruction. Chiefly, we believe a willingness to consider, change, and implement new ideas and technologies is necessary for continuous growth. Finally, we believe our collaborative community empowers students to become contributing and valued members of a global society, and we believe that, in an increasingly uncertain world, our core values will endure, providing our students with a sense of stability as they face challenges in the future. Non Excidet!

IDAHO MURDERS: A CRIME OF PASSION
On November 13th, 2022 four University of Idaho students, Ethan Chapin, 20; Madison Mogen, 21; Xana Kernodle, 20; and Kaylee Goncalves, 21, would come home after a long night of partying and would be brutally stabbed in their home between 3-4 AM. Mogen, Kernodle, and Goncalves lived with two other students in a six-bedroom home off campus at 1122 King Road near fraternity row. Chapin, who was dating Kernodle, was staying the night. A man then would break into their home under the cover of night and viciously stab them to death leaving 2 survivors unharmed. When they awoke the next morning they alerted the police and the manhunt began. With no signs of forced entry, the police had little to go on and relied on public information.
On November 30th hundreds would gather for a Vigil at the university where Kaylee's father would call the attacks targeted and provoked. Not much later on December 12th, he would go on to vilify the police for their efforts in hiding the severity of the attack from the public calling them cowards.
Finally, the detectives would get a break in the case, discovering hours of footage at a gas station where the victims were seen with another man. On December 30th this man would be Id’d as Washington State University Ph.D. student Bryan Christopher Kohberger; he would be arrested in Eastern Pennsylvania charging him with 4 counts of first-degree murder. The same car found in the tapes would later be discovered as his.
Bryan Christopher would be extradited to Idaho to face his crimes in the courts. Judge Margherita Worthington took her seat at the bench and Kohberger and his attorney Jason LaBar stood up. She asked Kohberger if he waived his right to challenge his arrest on four counts of first-degree murder. "Yes, I do," he replied, coldly. He's scheduled to face a Judge Thursday on four counts of first-degree murder and one count of felony burglary. People all across America will be witnesses to one of the biggest trials this decade.

WENGER'S TASTY LICKS: THE BIRD DOG
Philadelphia is known to have some of the best grub you can find. Anywhere that you go throughout the city you can find some iconic restaurants or stores which will give you a taste of the Philly experience.
Dietz and Watson, a very large deli business based out of Philadelphia, has launched a new food in honor of the Eagles playoff run. They call it The Bird Dog. The bird dog is a hotdog on a roll that is dyed green with provolone, crispy onions, and a long hot pepper. The only way you can get it is by seeing the food truck that drives around giving them out. The best part about it? They are free of cost and have T-Shirts and hats given out to the fans as well.
What is difficult about finding the truck is that it can only be found through a website displaying a time and a location. Fortunately enough for me the final location it would be found is the Jetro lot during the 49ers vs Eagles NFC Championship matchup, in which I would be attending. Sure enough, after two to three hours of tailgating the big green bus pulled into the lot and started giving out the dogs.
When I tell you my expectations were high, I mean sky high like this was hyped up for weeks. That changed after the first bite. Now yes it had a lot of flavors but the hot dog itself was not all that appetizing. It tasted like a grilled hot dog which I am not exactly fond of. The death of me was the long hot, which I had no idea what I was messing with. That pepper burnt my mouth with some of the numbest pain I have ever experienced. My tongue took about 15 minutes to cool off and 2 sprites as well.
But what will never make me forget this dog was the fact that the San Francisco fans paraded past our tailgate and started to throw alcoholic beverages and food at all the Eagles fans tailgating, getting Philly Pretzel Factory cheese all over my mom's car. This sparked an idea in my mind which would give a whole new meaning to “Bird Dog”. Without hesitation I dropped back, cocked my arm back, and flung the bird dog in the air, going airborne and sending a statement to the 49ers fans that the birds aren't to be messed with…or the bird dog.

NFL PLAYOFFS: WENGER'S TAKES
When January rolls around, every fan that embraces football as a living knows what is about to happen. The NFL Playoffs have officially returned and will commence Wild Card Weekend on January 14th, 2023. This year's wildcard features some teams that fans had figured would make it such as the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, Dallas Cowboys, Buffalo Bill, and Cincinnati Bengals. A lot of unlikely teams have joined the playoffs too like the New York Giants and Jacksonville Jaguars.
Wild Card Predictions: I firmly believe that Wild Card Weekend will include potentially some of the biggest upsets the NFL has seen. I have the Minnesota Vikings taking an L to the New York Giants, the darkhorse team of the Jaguars beating the Chargers would not surprise me given the momentum they have built as they clinched the AFC South (with an underwhelming 9-8 record), and I could definitely see Geno Smith lead the Seahawks to their first divisional round appearance since the 2019 season because to quote him “They wrote me off, I ain't write back tho.”
Divisional Round Predictions: The Divisional Round matchups would end up being some of the best football played the entire season. The Eagles and the Chiefs coming off a first-round bye would get the lowest remaining seed which would be the Giants and the Jaguars respectively. (R.E: That did indeed happen) KC definitely wins vs the Jags because all around they are just better. The Eagles will decimate the New York Hobbits because there is no way that Darius Slayton or Kenny Golladay will be able to catch a ball on Slay, CJ, or Bradbury. The 49ers, coming off a decimating performance vs the Seahawks, would set up a year-long rivalry in the making since Dak Prescott made a poor QB run to end their season in last year's matchup during Wild Card weekend. I see the 49ers taking this one and showing the fraudulent Cowboys why they are a Super Bowl-caliber team. The Bengals vs The Bills would not surprise me in the slightest seeing Buffalo knocked out. They struggled against a 3rd string quarterback for the Miami Dolphins who just barely made the playoffs. I see Joe Shiesty taking a W in this contest.
AFC/NFC Championship: As a homer, I am going to say the Eagles are taking this one vs San Francisco. The Purdy hype will end soon enough and show why he was Mr. Irrelevant during the draft. They have a good defense I will give them that but our offense has weapons not even the military could get ahold of. You take away one receiver from the game plan? Miles Sanders gets the ball or Devonta Smith rattles your secondary. Eagles 27, 49ers 10.
As for Kansas City vs Cincy, I see a close game. All the “rara” talk from the Bengals fan base and their team leaves a bad taste in the mouth for Mahomes and his Chiefs. Mahomes, who suffered an ankle sprain vs the Jags in the divisional round, is going to need to play on point and put the pain behind him if they want to win. Burrow has Chase and Higgins all day if he needs it but I don't think It will be all that easy for them. I have the Chiefs with a 17-10 win over the Bengals.
Super Bowl Matchup: And there were two. The Eagles of Philadelphia will be hosting the Chiefs of Kansas City in Glendale, Arizona for Super Bowl 57. The Eagles have announced they will be wearing their midnight green uniforms which have been the staple of their postseason and what they wore back in 2018 vs New England. I knew last week's game was over when Just Wanna Rock by Lil Uzi Vert came on with him leading the charge out of the tunnel. After a decimating defensive performance in the playoffs, allowing 14 points total through the two games, it seems the Eagles have momentum for this game. As for the Chiefs, they will be wearing their whites, the first time they have done so in the playoffs during Mahomes' career. With the bye week between the Super Bowl and the NFC/AFC chips, it will give a good amount of time for the Chiefs to recover from their injuries. They finally got their get back vs the Bengals which will certainly get them hype for the big game. I don’t want to jinx my Eagles in this game so I will not give a score prediction even if the Eagles open up as the favorites for the game. Either way, one thing is for sure. Kelce is going to have another ring at the end of this game.

DAMAR HAMLIN
On Monday, January 2nd, during a primetime game between the Bills and Bengals, Bills' safety, Damar Hamlin, collapsed on the field after making a tackle on Tee Higgens. It is reported that his heart stopped for around 9 minutes before a heartbeat was found. About 3 days later, Damar woke up and was able to write, “Did we win?” This let the doctors know that Damar was still himself. As of today, Damar is awake and doing well in the hospital. With the events of Damar’s injury, many companies have started the manufacturing of new padded shirts with heart protection from the chest to the side. One of these companies is “Unequal Sports” which has become a leader in the manufacturing of these shirts and supplying them to younger players.

SUPERBOWL PREDICTIONS

"Eagles vs Bengals, Bengals winning but it might be close."
“I don’t care what teams are playing but I think the score will be 32-17.”
"Eagles vs Chiefs, Eagles winning."
"Eagles vs Chiefs, Eagles winning."
"Eagles vs Bengals, Bengals winning “I think it is going to be a really good game, but the Chiefs will win.”
"Eagles vs Chiefs, Eagles winning."
“Cheifs are winning. All I am saying is that if the Cowboys were playing the Eagles. Eagles fans would be crying right now if the Cowboys was going to the Super Bowl.”
"Eagles vs Cheifs, Chiefs winning"
"Hopefully Eagles vs Bengals, with the Eagles winning. Young Ma said it best: I ride for my guys, that’s the bro code.”
"Eagles vs Cheifs, Eagles winning"
“I’m not a huge football guy but I think we have a good chance against the Cheifs.”
"I think the game will be Eagles vs Cheifs, Eagles winning. I feel like it’s going to be a close game, no blow-out like with the 9ers, but definitely still winning.”
