Eligibility Requirements

To honor the values that defined Nicholas Fassett, this scholarship is awarded to a student who demonstrates not only academic effort, but exceptional character. Applicants must meet the following criteria:

Overview

The Nicholas Fassett Memorial Scholarship honors the life and values of Nicholas Fassett by recognizing a graduating senior attending Franklin Academy within the Malone Central School District who demonstrates exceptional kindness, humility, and loyalty in their everyday life. This award is presented annually at Franklin Academy Senior Awards Night. 

Award Amount: $500
Submission Deadline: March 6th, 2026
Where to Submit: Franklin Academy Guidance Office

To be considered for the scholarship, applicants must:

• Be a graduating senior at Franklin Academy
• Demonstrate qualities of kindness, humility, and loyalty
• Complete a minimum of 10 hours of community service
• Provide two letters of recommendation (one peer and one professional)
• Submit a complete application including all required sections and attachments
• Return the entire application packet to the Guidance Office by the deadline

Application Components

Your application must include all of the following:

1. Applicant Information

Basic details, including your contact info, planned college or program, and intended field of study (if known).

2. Community Service Verification (10 hours minimum)

You must document:
• Activity or organization
• Supervisor name, contact info, and signature
• Total hours completed

3. Two Letters of Recommendation

You must include:
• One peer letter
• One professional letter (teacher, coach, employer, or community leader)
These letters must speak to your kindness, humility, loyalty, and overall character.

4. Self-Assessment Questionnaire

Applicants must thoughtfully answer the six character-focused questions covering topics such as kindness, humility, loyalty, and living up to Nick’s legacy.

5. High School Transcript

A current academic transcript must be included.

6. Applicant Certification

Your signature verifying that all information is accurate and complete.

Selection Criteria

The selection committee evaluates:

• Demonstrated kindness, humility, and loyalty
• Meaningful impact of community service
• Strength and sincerity of recommendations
• Depth and authenticity of self-assessment responses
• Overall alignment with the values embodied by Nicholas Fassett

Award Presentation

The selected recipient will be honored and presented with a $500 scholarship check during Franklin Academy Senior Awards Night.
