Dear Families,
We continue to be deeply appreciative of the partnership we have with each FASNY family as we move through this challenging time.
Our teachers have made herculean efforts to develop an in-person program that takes social distancing requirements into consideration and they have organized virtual learning for students who join us each day from home.
Most teachers, anywhere and everywhere, have never been trained to teach online and in person simultaneously.
All of us, students, teachers, and families continue to learn by doing in this unprecedented time.
Since we have been fortunate to reopen full time we have been evaluating our daily schedules and learning to work and learn together in a modified environment in person.
As the pandemic continues and New York State’s guidelines shift we know that more students may have to come back and forth to school for different reasons - family medical concerns, possible exposure, and/or required quarantine.
It is for these reasons that we decided to relaunch the distance learning website from last spring with updated protocols for the grade levels and further information about additional possible scenarios.
The foundation of our School Community is the belief in RESPECT:
Responsibility/Responsabilité
Empathy/Empathie
Solutions/Solutions
Positive/Positif
Enthusiasm/Enthousiasme
Cooperation/Coopération
Time/Temps
These beliefs and our commitment to the community contract apply when we are learning together in school and from home. All students, families and teachers must respect our classrooms at this time and appropriate classroom behavior is expected on campus and from home.
All students and families are expected to respect the following universal expectations when learning from home:
Join from a quiet spot in your home and do not move around
Raise your hand to participate
Watch and listen to the person who is speaking
Stay in the screen frame
Avoid distracting behaviors
Please note that students who disrupt an online class may be muted, turned off video or removed from the session at the teacher’s discretion. The integrity of synchronous sessions must be preserved for the benefit of the whole group.
We ask that you take some time to read through the new site and take note of the expectations we have for all members of our FASNY community. We must all continue to exercise empathy and kindness around us.
We hope this letter and the website will answer your questions and provide you with further resources and support as you need them. We are here to support you, your children, and our teachers.
Let us work together to support your child’s success. We thank you for your partnership.
Be well,
Charles & Isabelle
