About Far South CAC
The Far South Community Action Council (CAC) is one of nine such councils across Chicago. Dedicated to fostering collaborative efforts, the Far South CAC provides community support for the development of quality Chicago Public Schools through engaging, empowering, and connecting stakeholders.
Formed as a catalyst for change and improvement on the Far South Side of Chicago, the Far South CAC serves as a vehicle of empowerment for families and community members. Our diverse membership includes parents, elected officials, faith-based institutions, healthcare providers, community-based organizations, Local School Council (LSC) members, business leaders, educators, school administrators, community residents, and students.
At Far South CAC, we facilitate open dialogue and proactive engagement to address school-related issues and develop effective strategies for improvement. As part of a network of Community Action Councils (CACs), we collaborate with families, school administrators, teachers, staff, and community stakeholders to support local education initiatives.
Our CAC consists of 25 to 30 voting members who play a pivotal role in crafting strategic plans for educational success within our community. Responsibilities of CAC members include:
Attendance and active participation in monthly meetings
Reviewing school data to inform academic improvement initiatives
Collaboratively developing annual educational strategic plans
Engaging in CAC committee meetings and initiatives beyond monthly gatherings
Offering community perspectives on critical CPS initiatives and policies related to school improvement strategies
Facilitating recruitment for LSC elections by identifying judges and candidates
Participating in annual CAC conferences, retreats, and summits to further our mission and goals.
Through these efforts, Far South CAC endeavors to empower stakeholders, foster dialogue, and drive positive change to enhance the educational landscape of our community.
