Senior Maths Challenge Paper

The Senior Challenge is aimed at all 16-19 year olds studying mathematics.  The challenge involves answering 25 multiple choice questions in 90 minutes and is sat in school under normal exam conditions.

All Mathematics students can enter for the Challenge paper. We recognise that all students need to think beyond the constraints of the Mathematics syllabus. A level exam questions involve thinking about how to apply the methods studied in class in unfamiliar situations. Your First year weekly homeworks are your number one priority, but to be really successful in Mathematics you will need to develop your problem solving skills too. This challenge, and discussions with other students will help you do this.

Many universities are now introducing admission tests. Admission tests questions for many subjects including engineering, economics and even geography have been similar or even identical to questions in this pack.

If you want a simpler one to start with, try the intermediate challenge (aimed at years 10 and 11) 

• Complete the paper, focussing on the first 15 questions.

• Use a rough sheet of paper for your working – your teacher may want to see this.

• Mark your answers – 4 points for a correct answers, -1 if it is wrong!

• Discuss your answers with friends.
