As preparation for your studying geography at advanced level we would like you to complete the following tasks and bring them along to your lessons in the first week.
Reading is a vital skill for any geography student. Reading regularly builds confidence with literacy, develops a strong vocabulary, and improves subject knowledge and understanding. Your first task is to read a geography related book, magazine or journal article and write a brief summary of the content to bring with you to your first lesson.
Suggested journal articles (again, there are plenty more that you could find - these are just suggestions)
The Conversation: Increasing wildfire risk
National Geographic: Himalayan glaciers melting at an alarming rate
Discovering the Arctic: Conflict and geopolitical issues in the Arctic
Geographical: Pollution is accelerating the ice melt in Antarctica
Geographical: 10 largest earthquakes
Geographical: Solving the plastic crisis
Watch the video linked below, and read the two weblinks before answering the following questions:

Outline the key objectives of the 15 minute city concept. What does it involve in Paris?
What is the evidence of success in Paris?
Who was against the proposals? Why?
Why is the idea of 15 minute cities resisted in the UK?
Unless you normally type in your exams, please write this out rather than typing. Please bring this with you to your first geography lesson
We will be discussing these tasks in the first week when you start in September, so be prepared to share what you have found out!
