School nursing, a specialized practice of nursing, protects and promotes student health, facilitates optimal development, and advances academic success. School nurses, grounded in ethical and evidence-based practice, are the leaders who bridge health care and education, provide care coordination, advocate for quality student-centered care, and collaborate to design systems that allow individuals and communities to develop their full potential.

Lead School Nurses
What does a Lead School Nurse do?
Coordinate the School Nurse’s schedules to best accommodate student needs and adjust as needed when a school nurse is absent. Act as the go-to person for School Health Services working positively with staff, students, and parents/guardians. Supervise, lead and guide the School Health Services staff to include completing evaluations per District policy. Coordinate and assist student nurses providing an exemplary learning experience for the student Organize and plan orientation for new nursing staff. Provide effective communication with outside agencies to include Health Department, Dentists, Doctors, etc. Organize, plan, and respond regarding vaccination clinics, community outbreaks, etc. Maintain, process, purchase, and approve expenses from the Health Services budget. Promote and model a positive School Health Services program Write policy, procedures, and protocols to address medical and health needs of students.
