Howitt Middle School's Genre Con is a celebration of a number of literary genres through author & illustrator visits, drawing workshops, crafts, contests, and photography opportunities. It is on Saturday, May 13th, 2023  9:15 am - 12:50 pm.

It is a FREE event for current Howitt students! 

Permission forms are digital this year.

Visiting Author & Illustrator

Gordon Korman, Author

Gordon Korman is the #1 NY Times bestselling author of 100 books for middle graders and teens, most recently The Superteacher Project and The Fort. He will talk about his writing process, including brainstorming, character development, dialogue, and his signature styles of humor and adventure, and relate his experiences growing up writing for kids after his 7th grade English assignment became his first published novel.

David O. Miller, Illustrator

Science Fiction and Fantasy illustrator David O. Miller has created art for many book and roleplaying game companies, including illustrations for Dungeons & Dragons. An avid space enthusiast, David was formally employed as the Art Director for U.S. Space Camp/U.S. Space and Rocket Center in Huntsville, Alabama. An admitted "geek" David has a love of old science fiction and horror comics, books and films. An enthusiastic table top gamer, David can be found as an industry guest at many local gaming conventions running popular and exciting games. Currently, David runs his own graphic design/illustration studio here on Long Island, where he still produces fantasy and sci-fi art for many independent game publishers. He also tutors computer graphic classes in Digital Painting, Adobe Photoshop, Adobe InDesign and Adobe Illustrator.
