to Genre Con 2019

Howitt Middle School's Genre Con is a celebration of art, literature, and pop culture. We are celebrating a number of genres through author visits, writers' workshops, contests, and photography opportunities.

This event is possible through the terrific support of the Howitt Parent Teacher Association.

Visiting Authors

Dave Roman

Dave Roman is the author/illustrator of the Astronaut Academy series (winner of Maryland’s Black-Eyed Susan Book Award) and writer of the graphic novels Teen Boat!and Agnes Quill: An Anthology of Mystery. He has contributed stories to Comics Squad: Recess!, Explorer: The Mystery Boxes, Nursery Rhyme Comics, and Goosebumps Graphix: Slappy’s Tales of Horror. Roman is a graduate of the School of Visual Arts, a former editor at Nickelodeon Magazine and is currently series editor for First Second’s Science Comics series of nonfiction graphic novels. He lives in Astoria, NY and draws a weekly webcomic called Starbunny, Inc.

Melissa Kuch

Melissa Kuch is a writer/playwright who first realized her passion for writing after her first short story was read before her third grade class. She is the author of The Hypothesis of Giants series, with book one, The Assumption, and book two, The Change Agent, and book three, The Control, currently available on Amazon. She lives on Long Island, NY with her husband Michael and their daughter Lily.
