FJHS Jr Jazz Birds
The 2020 - 2021 school year at Farmington Junior High School will see the return of the FJHS Jr Jazz Birds. This is a beginning jazz band for 8th and 9th grade students. We use standard jazz instrumentation - saxophones, trombones, trumpets, guitar, bass, drum set and piano. We are also open to having other band students join this group. Students who are not currently enrolled in a Farmington Band Class are more than welcome to join if they already play guitar, bass or piano. Unfortunately we are unable to take the time to teach these instruments in the class so students must already have experience playing and reading music.
Jazz band students will be expected to perform outside of the normal class period several times a year for concerts and attending one or two jazz festivals. Students will also be trying out for chairs at the Region 7 All Region Jazz Band Tryouts in November of 2020. Students will be taught this music in class to prepare for tryouts.
