Summative Assessments

Many types of assessments create a body of evidence, while summative assessments calculate the final grade. A body of evidence communicates the progression of learning for each student in all designated course Skills. This builds through continuous summative assessments that showcase the proficiency level of a student throughout a semester. Teachers may offer additional proficiency attempts at the end of a semester to ensure an accurate proficiency level.
Each course and subject area is different and assess students in multiple capacities to ensure growth and development, while meeting the needs of diverse learners. For this reason, retake policies may differ from course to course.
The BiModal Matrix in PowerSchool communicates missing assessments/assignments, teacher comments, and career and college ready practices, guidelines for success, etc. The BiModal Matrix will be used to communicate students’ proficiency in each Enduring Skill.
For Credit-bearing courses grades will be computed in three-week intervals to include the end of each grading period. For eligibility purposes, in conjunction with NDHSAA, students must be passing at least 2.5 credits in order to be considered eligible. This is reported separately from the EBR projected grade. A student may become ineligible or regain their eligibility at each of the grade checks.
