Creating a family atmosphere in which all student-athletes feel welcomed and for the participants to develop work ethic and teamwork skills that will help them throughout their lifetime is the focus and direction of Davies High School cross country.
Cross country is a unique sport in which everyone on the team is capable of being a positive influence and making an impact on how successful we are. The last runner that finishes is just as important as the number one runner if they are able to cheer and be a positive influence. The number six runner is just as important as the number one runner, if they are able to place high and “push” another team’s number five runner from finishing high. Every single member of a cross country team is extremely important. The most fun part of coaching and participating in cross country is finding where you fit in to help the team become successful.
Nutrition and overall health are important components to competing in any sport, but it is even more essential with cross country due to the intensity of training and competition. Being conscientious of the food that is taken in and the amount of sleep your daughter is getting is crucial. Many parents have found it is easy to set a good example themselves during the season and throughout the year by starting to be more active and health minded.
