STEM Programs
SERSEF/NDSSEF/ISEF (local, state, international) Science Fair - accessible to all grade levels. Competing in science fairs are an opportunity for students to explore their scientific curiosity and present their research projects to a broader audience. Visit with a science teacher. (November 1st registration deadline for SERSEF)
Tri-College Math Competition (local math competition) - accessible to all grade levels. By participating, you can sharpen your mathematical aptitude and collaborate with peers, fostering a love for mathematics. Visit with a math teacher.
ND Talent Search (state math competition) - accessible to all grade levels. (Round 1 due by October 31)
UND Math Track Meet (state math competition) - accessible to all grade levels. Visit with a math teacher. (Form due December 4th)
National Science Bowl (state science competition) - accessible to all grade levels. Visit with a STEM teacher. (Form due December 1st)
ND Cyber Madness (state competition). State-wide cybersecurity competition. Must register as high school. Visit with teacher.
AMC Math Competition (national math competition) - accessible to all grade levels. Visit this website for practice problems. Visit with a math teacher.
F=ma exam (national physics competition) - accessible to all grade levels. Visit with a STEM teacher.
Congressional App Challenge (national coding competition) - accessible to all grade levels. Visit with a STEM teacher. (November 1st deadline)
MIT THINK (national science program) - accessible to all grade levels. Visit with a STEM teacher. (January 1st deadline)
Regeneron Science Talent Search (international science competition) - accessible to seniors only. Visit with a STEM teacher. (November 8th deadline)
USA Computing Olympiad (national programming competition) - accessible to all grade levels. For students interested in computer science, data strucutres, and algorithims.
NASA SEES at UT Austin (national STEM program) - accessible to only sophomores and juniors. NASA Internship at The University of Texas Center for Space Research, West Pickle Research Center, Austin, Texas, from July 7 – July 20, 2024 (for juniors). For sophomores, interns must be on-site July 27 – August 4, 2024. Requires essay questions, letter of recommendation, personal video, and transcript. Deadline: February 24th, 2024.
MIT Women's Technology Program (national program) - accessible to only juniors.
Research Programs
NDSU PICNICS Summer Program (local research program) - accessible to all grade levels. Paid research position at NDSU with focuses on chemistry, biochemistry, and coatings & polymers. Visit with a STEM teacher to get application forms or click on hyperlink. Deadline April 30, 2024.
Simons Summer Research Programs (national research program) - accessible to juniors only. Visit with a STEM teacher. (July 1 - August 9)

Government/Civics Programs
Fargo Youth Initiative (local program) - accessible to all grade levels. Represent the Fargo youth on current issues among the youth. Visit with a social studies teacher.
Cass County Youth Commission (local program) - accessible to all grade levels.
YMCA Youth In Government (state program) - accessible to all grade levels. Must be a YMCA member or participant in YMCA program. 2 state delegates will be chosen to represent North Dakota at national conference.
High School Democrats of North Dakota (state program) - accessible to all grade levels. Interested in politics? North Dakota High School Democrats is a politically active group of democratic high-school-teens in North Dakota that work actively to help elect DEM-NPL candidates, and democrats up and down the ballot!
Cass County Electric Cooperative Youth Tour (local competition) - accessible to only sophomores and juniors and family must be customers of CCEC. Two students will be selected to travel to Washington D.C. to learn about federal government. Essay question: "If chosen as a Youth Tour delegate, you will be traveling to Washington, D.C., to experience and learn about America's rich history. What moment in American history do you wish you had been a part of and what would you have contributed?" Deadline: January 19, 2024.

American Pre-College Philosophy Writing Contest (national competition) - must be taking philosophy class. National philosophy writing contest; top 2 winners will advance to international competition. Visit with philosophy teacher. (Deadline N/A)
Study Programs
North Dakota Governor's School (statewide program) - accessible only to sophomores and juniors. Application requires Personal Essay and 2 Recommendations (one from a teacher and one from a counselor/administrator). Deadline is Jan. 15, 2024.
U.S. Department of State Exchange Programs - accessible to all grade levels. Visit with your counselor.
Medical
Sanford MedX (local) - accessible to rising juniors and seniors with an interest in the healthcare industry. Program is administered by Sanford Health. Deadline April 26, 2024
Scholarships - check for application requirements
Celebration of Women & Their Music Scholarship (local scholarship) - accessible to female high school seniors only. This scholarship recognizes a creative young woman who has a passion for and plans to pursue education in the arts. All art forms are recognized: Visual Arts (painting, drawing, printing, sculpture, etc.) as well as Performing Arts (music, theatre, dance, dramatic reading, etc.). Deadline is April 30, 2024.
Calvin Coolidge Scholarship - accessible for juniors only. Focused on civics. Scholarship covers full tuition, room and board, and required fees for four years of undergraduate study. (January 18, 2024)
Joyce Ivy Scholarship - accessible for female juniors and seniors only. (March 1, 2024)
Coca-Cola Scholarship - accessible for seniors only. Scholars win $20,000 scholarship for undergraduate study. (N/A)
Burger King Scholarship - accessible for seniors only. Scholars win between $1,000 to $60,000 scholarship for undergraduate study. (December 15, 2023)
National Merit Scholarship - accessible for juniors only. Scholars win $2,500 based on qualifying NMSC PSAT score (ranges by state). (N/A)
Distinguished Young Women Scholarship - accessible for female seniors only. (N/A)
NCWIT Aspirations in Computing (AiC) - accessible for all grade levels, must be female, genderqueer, and non-binary to be eligible. (N/A)
NDHSAA/Farmers Union (state scholarship) - accessible only to juniors who participate in a NDHSAA sponsored sport.
College Fly-In Programs
Dartmouth Summer Bound Program (national program) - accessible only to rising seniors. Interested in attending Dartmouth University? The Dartmouth Bound Program is designed to give participants an experience of daily college life at Dartmouth. Participants will learn about Dartmouth's close-knit community and its resources, as well as college admissions and financial aid processes. Applications due May 15, 2024.
Caltech Close Up Program (national program) - accessible only to rising seniors. Interested in attending CalTech? Caltech Close Up is a program for high school seniors to experience life at CalTech. Applications due August 6, 2024.
MIT WISE (national program) - accessible only to rising seniors. Interested in attending MIT? MIT WISE is a fly in program that lets high school seniors to experience life at MIT. Applications due August 19, 2024.
Access to Amherst (A2A) (national program) - accessible only to rising seniors. Interested in attending Amherst University? A2A is a fly in program for high school seniors to experience life at Amherst University. Applications due August 14, 2024.
Prologue to Bates (national program) - accessible only to rising seniors. Interested in attending Bates College? Prologue to Bates, a program geared towards students entering their senior year who express interest in attending Bates, is a fly in program for high school seniors to experience college life at Bates College.
