I grew up in Lander Wyoming where I began swimming competitively in 8th grade and continued until I graduated from high school. Although I competed in a variety of events, distance was my cup of tea. While in high school I taught swim lessons and coached young athletes with USA Swimming. While my swimming career as an athlete ended after two shoulder surgeries, I returned to coaching my senior year of college. At this time, I began working as an assistant coach with the Grand Forks KnightRiders Swimming and Diving team. I coached the boys for four years and did one season with the Grand Forks girls’ team. While in Grand Forks I was also the head coach for the Grand Forks Special Olympic Swim Team. I graduated from the University of North Dakota with a Bachelor of Art in History, a Minor in Athletic Coaching, with an emphasis on swimming, and a Secondary Education certification. In 2009 I was offered a teaching position at Fargo North and began assistant coaching the boys’ team. I worked with North for two years before being hired as Davies Head Coach. I am a Realtor at Park Company. I believe that all athletes can achieve greatness; it is a matter of will, courage, and determination. To be better than you were yesterday, to be more than you are today, and to accomplish goals we all must push beyond what we believe we are capable of.
I learned to swim the summer of 1994 and a year later I joined the swimming team to "REALLY" learn how to swim. That team was the St. Paul Johnson High School Governors Boys Team (Go Govies!). My first week in, the coach asked if anyone was willing to learn how to dive and I volunteered. I learned an 11-dive list and dove at the City Conference that first year! I also swam the 500yd Freestyle and whatever else I could to help the team score an extra point or two. I ended up diving all four years in high school and would have liked to keep diving in college, but the school I went to (UWRF) didn't have a diving team. So, I ended up coaching at River Falls High School. I coached there for three years and was hired to be the Minneapolis School District coach until my work schedule interfered with coaching too much. Fast forward many years later and I began teaching in Arizona, and I once again started coaching. This time at Estrella Heights High School in Goodyear. I coached there for two years before I moved back to the Midwest and started coaching the Horace and West Fargo girls' diving teams. I am happy to join the Davies Team for the boys' season and looking forward to a fun season ahead!
I have been swimming since I was 10 years old, competing for the FMY Gators and NLSA Marlin Club teams. In High School I attended Fargo South and swam 6 years for the Bruins, serving as team Captain my Junior and Senior years. I attended St. John's University where I earned a Bachelor's Degree in Biology. While in college I swam and played Water Polo all 4 years for the Johnnies, serving as Captain for both teams my senior year. Following college, I returned to Fargo. I became an Assistant Coach for the Davies boys in the 2016-2017 season. I began coaching the West Fargo Packer girls in 2018 and was promoted to Co-Head Coach in 2020, and Head Coach in 2022. I am also a coach for the West Fargo Flyers club team. I am a huge swim nerd, and follow Olympic, pro, and NCAA swimming, attending meets whenever I get the chance. I still enjoy getting in the pool a couple of days a week and trying out new equipment and techniques. My favorite part of coaching is seeing athletes achieve their goals and exceed what they think they are capable of.
I started swimming competitively from the time I was in elementary school through high school. I swam with Minot Swim Club until I could join school teams where I first swam for Ramstad Middle School swim team and then Minot High School boys swim and dive team. Throughout my high school swim career, I swam in four consecutive WDA meets and stood on the podium for the top 16 twice in the 100 Breaststroke and once in the 200 IM. All four years of swimming for Minot High I made the state team in the 100 Breaststroke and the team for the 200 IM and the 100 Breaststroke my senior year. Junior and senior year of high school I made it to finals on the second day of state in the 100 Breaststroke junior year and both the 100 Breaststroke and 200 in my senior year. For the 2017-2018 swim season, I was voted to be one of the four captains of the swim team and during that season we won both WDA and State championship meets. I went on with intentions of swimming at Morningside College in Sioux City, Iowa but realized my passions led elsewhere from being a collegiate athlete. I look forward to coaching the sport I love at Davies High School and working to help create strong, independent, and hard-working young men.
