Summer Reading 2022

Dear Durfee students,

We want you to have as much fun as you can this summer! Skin your knees and stay up late. Spend time outside with family and friends. Eat ice cream.

We also hope you'll exercise your brains as much as your bodies. To that end, we're so excited to introduce you to our new and improved ~ summer ~ reading ~ ! We did our best to pick interesting stories—all of which tie into the curricula that you will kick off the 2022-23 school year with.

We tried to pick texts that are as diverse as all of you. Maybe you'll read a story that's a mirror—a place for you to see some part of yourself reflected back to you. Or maybe you'll read a window—a story that helps you glimpse someone's life completely different from your own.

No matter what, enjoy it! We want you to grow a lifelong love of reading under our care, and we genuinely hope that summer reading won't feel like a burden, or a chore to be pushed off to the last minute. We hope it'll be fun!

P.S. If you need help getting a book, please don't hesitate to reach out to Mrs. V (see below). Here are some tips to get you started, though:

  • Borrow the book from your free public library.

  • Borrow eBooks on SORA or audiobooks using your library card with the OverDrive app.

  • Buy the book from a bookstore.

  • Buy a book (used or new) online.
