**Assessment **
There are several types of assessments that we use in this classroom: School-wide program assessments, formal classroom assessments, and informal observations. Each of these assessments provides the basis for grading.
School-Wide
Benchmark and ANET have District-created tests, given on specific days throughout the school year. These are designed to test your child’s knowledge of the Common Core Content Standards
Classroom Formal
Weekly & Bi-weekly math, language skills, and reading comprehension tests/quizzes, as well as class writing assignments, are given to assess your child’s progress on the curricular pacing in Room 228.
Informal Observation
I will be assessing your child’s progress daily through our lessons based on teacher observations. They will help me determine your child’s specific needs on a daily basis and allow me to adjust my instruction to meet his or her needs.
** Grading & Curriculum **
Rubrics are a fancy name for grading guides.
4 = Above standard for grade level (A++++++++++)
3 = Met standard for grade level (A, B, or C)
2 = Below standard for grade level(C- or D)
1 =FAR below standard for grade level (F)
In this class, we are striving for at least a 3 on each assignment. Simply put, that means your child is expected to meet the standard for 5th grade work. If he or she does what is being asked, a 3 will be earned. If the work demonstrates skills that are above and beyond, a 4 will be earned.
A student will earn a 2 if the work is not up to the Standard expected. A 1 would result from lack of effort on the student’s part or a misunderstanding of the topic. If there needs to be a reteach I will allow for the students to redo the assignment and
