Faith Family Shrimp Company is a dock/factory owned and operated by husband and wife, Chad and Angela Portier. They unload and serve commercial fishing boats from Terrebonne Parish and the surrounding areas. However, their story does not begin there.
Chad Portier Sr. is a fourth generation fisherman who began his career on a shrimping vessel at fifteen years old. His interest in pursuing commercial fishing began because his late father Russell Portier Sr. was a well-known boat builder on Bayou Petite Caillou. Russell Sr. built over 150 boats in his lifetime with more than half being shrimp vessels, so this provided Chad with many opportunities for work. But when his dad gave him the option to work in the oilfield, work as a hand at the shipyard building boats, or take a brand new 72-foot trawl boat out to sea, Chad Sr. chose the latter with no hesitation. After years of hard work and dedication to the industry, Chad eventually started captaining his own boat named the Angela Marie, built by third generation fisherman, Anthony Chauvin Jr. (Angela Portier's father).
Because Chad and Angela were so successful with their first vessel, they acted in faith and bought three more, hiring their own captains and crews. Chad Sr. even built an additional shrimping vessel to add to the fleet named the Jesus Lives, which was launched in January of 2017. Chad and Angela's business grew so much that they decided to unload their own shrimp and sell directly to the factory. Between all five vessels, they were landing an average of 2 million pounds of Wild Caught American Gulf shrimp per year.
Finally, in March of 2018, the Portier family bought a full-time working shrimp dock known today as Faith Family Shrimp Company. The new dock has given them the opportunity to buy more product and sell shrimp to additional customers. The establishment of Faith Family Shrimp Company has provided more growth for the business, their customers, the fisherman, the community, and their families.
The company has continued to grow since the purchase of the shrimp dock. Since the initial purchase in 2018, the Portier family has decided to begin drying shrimp as well. Along with their son, Chad Portier Jr., Chad and Angela have recently purchased another shrimp dock/factory in Chauvin called Portier's Seafood. Chad Portier Jr. is the full-time operator/part-owner of the facility where he dries most of the shrimp product unloaded at Portier's Seafood. Chad Portier Sr. and his other son, Jenson, also dry shrimp here at Faith Family Shrimp Company's drying facility.
Chad and Angela are thankful to God for this opportunity to expand their business and for the Lord's faithfulness to their family. They also greatly appreciate the buyers who support the local fisherman, docks, and processors. With their support, everyone is able to work hard and do what they love while providing for their families. They love seeing customers promote American jobs and a healthy product to seafood consumers. Please continue to support our industry by buying Wild Caught American Gulf shrimp.
