Mentorship Project Title: Pen Pal Buddies
School: Fairview High School
Advisor Email: alissa.antwine@fairviewschools.net
Age Level: Elementary/Middle School
Time Frame: A 1-2 month program
Description: A high school student council member writes back to a younger student in elementary or middle school for 1-2 months, writing back to them at least once a week. They spend that time getting to know the child, encouraging them, and letting them feel as though they have a mentor to talk to that's only a letter away. This is a learning opportunity for kids to learn how to converse with older students, but also a fun way for them to get to know a high school student council member. High school student council members also gain valuable experience in being a mentor for the younger students. This could be an email pen pal program, or a physical letter program.

Age Level: 8th Grade
Time Frame: 2 days
Description: There is 8th Grade Orientation for the Freshmen Class and it has a "FRESH PERSPECTIVE" ! The program happens during the day with groups from the middle school arranged by their administration. There will be groups here visiting from 8:45am-10:45am and 11:30am-1:00pm. While visiting, the students will go through 4 rotations. One of these rotations will be the Organization/Subject Activity Fair which we have done each year during the evening orientation in the past! We recommend that each organization has at least two to three representatives, either students or adults, for the whole time. The other three rotations are: a tour of the school, given in small groups for each rotation so that students can ask questions; a student panel where student leaders discuss things they wish they knew about high school as a freshman, and other things. The fourth and final rotation is a time for the students to individually sit down with their counselors and enroll for the following year.

Advisor Email: gdozier@mid-del.net
Age Level: K-5th Grade
Time Frame: Every Tuesday
Description: Encourage the love of learning, friendship, teamwork and comradery by building relationships with our "Tiny Titans To Be". Each leadership student is assigned a small group of children that the listed teacher has identified as "needing encouragement". This varies from child to child. In many cases it is to help the introvert feel heard, or the "new students" to feel like they do belong. In other cases the students are extremely gifted and need an outlet that allows the teacher to keep on pace with the rest of their students while the leadership team does activities with these students. The Leadership kids become mentors and are adored by their "littles". We are able to accommodate the needs that the elementary teachers have, and the students learn to adapt to changes every week. This has been one of our must endearing activities and the most applauded by our peers.
