FAQs

If you have any questions regarding the music program, please contact your child's teacher or a music teacher from their respective school.

If you have any questions regarding the music department, please contact Ms. Liliana Lopez at llopez@fairlawnschools.org

Where should I rent my child's instrument?

As a district, we work with these vendors to provide instruments: The Music Shop, Music and Arts, and K&S Music. Flyers and links for these websites are in our Resources Tab. While purchasing an instrument is an option, we highly recommend the renting of instruments. If there is an issue with an instrument, the vendors are able to provide the repair and/or replacement if necessary.

When will my child receive lessons?

Lessons are during the school day. We schedule lessons on a rotating schedule so your child won't miss a class more than once every month/6 weeks. We update the lesson schedule regularly, so please be sure to contact your child's teacher or refer to Google Classroom.

Can my child participate in more than one ensemble?

Yes! All ensemble teachers work together to ensure that students are able to participate in all the groups they are interested in. Please contact your child's music teacher to discuss lessons and ensemble rehearsals.

What is Remind?

We use this to communicate last minute information about rehearsals. Remind is a safe app where phone numbers are not shared. Students and families will only receive messages from their teachers. We strongly encourage either downloading the app or sign up through text message to stay up to date with information. Please contact your child's teacher for more information.

Do I need experience in order to join the ensembles?

No! While it is true that some ensembles are by audition (such as chamber choir or jazz band) you can join choir, band, and orchestra without any prior musical experience.
