Kia ora,
Ka Mua, Ka Muri
‘Aotearoa New Zealand’s Histories in the New Zealand Curriculum’ has been released to schools in 2022. Originally intended for 2021, it was delayed due to the Covid-19 Pandemic and it is intended to be implemented in schools starting in 2023. A key part of the curriculum asks students to learn about their rohe and local contexts the curriculum stating that students should learn about:
“Topics and stories chosen by students when inquiring into the history of the rohe and local area.”
This website is a collaborative way for Horowhenua educators to teach some Aotearoa histories and, in particular local stories. There are many amazing resources, activities, stories and people in our area. It is our hope that educators will add resources and we can make this space a repository for teaching and learning Aotearoa history.
Keep in mind when teaching history that students and whānau should tell their own students and we should take care that we are not ‘telling other people’s stories’.
