The Guidance & Counseling Department , as well as, the Child Study Team, at Fairfield Township School provides certified school counselors to provide a comprehensive school counseling program that addresses the academic, career, personal, and social development of all students in a safe and nurturing environment. Our counseling program supports all students and fosters partnerships between students, staff, families, and community members in order to eliminate the achievement gap and equip all students to achieve their full potential.
We provide small group counseling, with written consent, for students who may need more support. The purpose of small groups is to work on a specific concern or goal. Topics may include: family changes, transitions, building self-esteem, time management, and social skills. In small group counseling, the counselor teaches specific skills to 3-8 students at a time. These groups meet during the school day for 6 sessions.
We provide individual counseling, with written parent consent, to help students resolve problems. We also work towards a healthy self-regulation state by teaching healthy coping skills. In individual counseling, the school counselor works with students during the school day and may meet with them up to 6 sessions. After an individual counseling session, the counselor may find the issue or concern beyond what they are able to provide in a school setting and may refer parents or guardians to outside services.
Parents are able to request small group counseling or individual counseling for their child. Please consult with your child's school counselor to see if your child would benefit from these services.
