Welcome to Exploris!

Welcome to Movement Kindergarteners!

I look forward to learning with you this year. We will stretch and strengthen our bodies, learn big words like "locomotor movement" and make friends. I can't wait!

Love,

Ms. Lisa

Week B: October 18 - 21

This week Movement students will learn and practice throwing and catching. They will play games that reinforce these skills and they will be outside as much as possible. Please make sure your student is wearing appropriate shoes and clothes for outdoor activities.

Game: Oscar's Trash Can

2 students are “Oscar” and they go to the opposing teams trash can ( 2 gymnastics mats stacked on their side for the cans) to try and throw out the "trash" (foam balls, bean bags, etc) that is thrown in. .

When the music starts, students throw from the boundary line into the “can”. When the music stops, count how much "trash" is in the can and then switch out the students who are the Oscars 👍🏻.

Week B: Sept. 8 & 9 and Sept. 13 - 15

During in person learning this week, students will explore locomotor movement. This is movement that travels from one place to another like: run, walk, skip, gallop, hop, roll, crawl, etc.

The asynchronous assignment for Sept. 13 is to watch The Very Hungry Caterpillar and then participate in the Cosmic Kids: Very Hungry Caterpillar yoga practice.

Or, Find a small stuffed animal or sock ball.

Place it on your shoulder. Walk with it and see if you can keep it from falling off your shoulder.

Place it on your back and crawl being careful not to let it fall off.

Place it on your belly and crab walk with it.

Lay down on your back and breathe with the animal or sock ball on your belly. Relax and enjoy the rest of your day!

Week B: August 23 - 26

We will focus on behaviors that will help us do our best work in Movement class.

  • Walk into our circle time quickly and quietly.

  • Begin play on the sound of one (1) whistle and stop play on the sound of three (3) whistles.

  • Move when the music plays and freeze when the music stops.

  • Watch for a hand raised to stop and focus on the speaker.

We will explore the ancient movement art of Sumo Wrestling.

Our activity for the week will be to participate in the Japanese movement art of Sumo Wrestling. This will be a cultural as well as mind/body experience.
