We recognize that remote and blended instruction will be a challenge for families as you manage your own work and your child’s learning. We have a few recommendations for how to create structure in the day.
Create a workspace for each family member. This could be a certain spot at the table, on a bed, or on the floor .
Make a box or basket of school materials. Include supplies like pencils, paper, scissors, glue, and crayons for younger grades. Older students may need pencils, paper, calculators, etc.
As your child follows the daily schedule provided by their school, use this structure to plan your own schedule based on when your child is working independently.
Set rules so that your child is clear on what is allowed during work time, play time, etc. If possible, assign helpers (parents, guardians, siblings) to each section of the day so that your child is clear on who is in charge and who to ask for help.
When there is down time outside of school work, we recommend:
Arts and crafts, Legos, board games
Books, journaling, podcasts
Movement, dance, exercise
Online educational games and videos
