What Does the PTO Do?
The PTO (Parent Teacher Organization) is a group of parents, teachers, and school staff who work together to support and enhance the educational experience of students at Explore Academy RIO. The PTO organizes events like the Fall Carnival, raises funds for school programs and supplies, fosters communication between families and school staff, and helps build a strong school community. Whether it’s planning family nights, volunteering, or advocating for student needs, the PTO plays a vital role in creating a positive and supportive school environment.
How Can I Help?
You can start by becoming a PTO Member HERE. PTO Membership is $10 for the year. By becoming a member you are added to our email list (never shared with anyone) so you can be made aware of events and volunteer opportunities throughout the year.
After you have become a member, you are eligible to run for open PTO Board positions in May or if openings occur mid-year. However, we are always looking for volunteers to serve on our committees. Committees have more focused missions and the time commitment is small! We would love to have you! Check out the Committee Interest Form HERE.
Background Checks
If you would like to volunteer during school hours when students are present or to serve as an elected member of the PTO Board, you must complete a background check and volunteer interest form with Explore Academy Rio. To find more information about Volunteering during school hours when students are present please read page 60 of the student handbook HERE. Information on scheduling a background check can be found HERE and Volunteer Interest Form can be completed HERE.
Background checks are $59 per person but they last for the duration of your students' time at Explore Academy. The PTO is exploring ways we can help interested parties who may have financial hardship complete their background checks; however, we do not currently have a program to alleviate any financial burden associated with backgorund check fees.
