Unaccompanied Minor Program

All students traveling to Costa Rica on the Middle School program, (without a parent or guardian) will typically be required to purchase & enroll in the Unaccompanied Minor program with their airline. This program usually costs USD$150 each way (approx. $300 round trip) and is required for all travelers 14 years of age and under. When purchasing airfare for a minor, the airline has a list of policies that you must follow, for this reason, GLA highly recommends that you work with our travel agency partner, StudentUniverse to ensure that you book the correct flight for your student. After you have purchased your flight, please confirm that you have purchased the required Unaccompanied Minor Service with us.

Booking Guidelines  

• Fly into and out of the airport in San Jose, Costa Rica (Juan Santamaría International Airport, airport code: SJO) 

• Arrive anytime on the day your program begins 

• Depart anytime on the day your program ends

    • GLA recommends families avoid booking separate tickets with separate airline carriers and to avoid flights on Spirit or Frontier Airlines.

Suggested Route

For each program, we suggest a flight route that is the most direct, with the fewest number of stops, and always leaving from a US gateway airport. Check the suggested routes on the Flight Portal.
