Theft 

Madrid and Spain are safe for travelers from all countries, but foreigners need to take the same basic safety precautions during their stay, just like any other big city in the world, so they do not become targets to petty theft/crime. We recommend you carry only what you need while exploring the city and keep valuables at home. For example, don’t carry all your credit cards in your wallet just in case that item is stolen.

• Have a photocopy of your passport and other important documents stored separately from the originals.

• Avoid the use of smartphones, wearing flashy jewelry or speaking loudly in foreign languages.

• Keep your personal belongings on you at all times, even when sitting down at a restaurant.
