Welcome to 4th Grade!

A Month of Exploring Nature

Follow this link to find a resource for exploring nature with your child. The resource comes from the Four Winds Nature Institute.

Back to School Care Package

Click this link to access the Back to School Care Package! This is a great resource for distance learning that was developed by someone in the field of child development. "You’ll find tons of ideas and tools for both parents and children on everything from setting up at-home learning spaces, helping children combat loneliness, and helping children keep “teacher you” and “parent you” separate. You’ll also find useful calming exercises and ideas, including guided breathing prompts, to help you and your children refocus and reset."

Beginning of the Year Information!

September 1, 2020

Hello again!

I know you are all probably overwhelmed with emails and the start of the school year. This is a very different beginning to the year, and I will do my best to communicate with you, and this will be through this classroom Google Site! If I make updates, I will send an email, and the hope is that students will be adding to our site down the line. You won't see much here right now, but you might want to bookmark or save this page.

As information is changing on what seems like a daily basis, please understand that there may be some bumps in the road as we travel this education journey together...during a pandemic. Thank you in advance for your flexibility and understanding as I try to figure this out alongside you.

Also, please follow this link so you are added to our Class Dojo account! This is a site purely for pictures and happenings in our classroom. It is a completely private site, and only folks in our classroom can see posts. If this doesn’t work for you, let me know.

Below, you will find a good amount of information for the start of the school year as of now. If you or your child still have questions or just want to check in, I can make time on Thursday or Friday of this week for short Zoom or phone calls. Just reach out!

I am really excited about the upcoming school year, and cannot wait to see all of you! Enjoy the rest of your summer! It is going to be a great year! Always feel free to reach out.

See you soon!

Ms. Henderson

School Schedule:

**If your child already has a device at home that they would rather use, please let me know and we can leave the Chromebook at school.

Cohort A (Monday/ Tuesday)

School starts on Tuesday, September 8- a remote work packet with assignments will go home with them to complete and hand in on the following Monday in their home folders provided by FMS. Their home folders will need to travel to and from school with classwork regularly.

Cohort B (Thursday/Friday)

School starts on Thursday, September 10- a remote work packet with assignments will go home with them on Friday to complete and hand back in on the following Thursday. Their home folders will need to travel to and from school with classwork regularly.

  • Weekly Virtual Morning Meeting: We will have one “live” virtual morning meeting via ZOOM with the whole class on Wednesday mornings at 10:00. I will let you know when the first meeting will be once it is scheduled, and we understand that students may not be able to make this meeting each week. This will support community building as opposed to a mandatory lesson.

  • All remote work will be a follow-up to the work we have done in class. For the first couple of weeks, the work will come home as a packet. Eventually, the students’ work assignments will be through Google Classroom. However, I want to go over with the students how Google classroom works, how they access their assignments, hand them in, etc. first in the classroom so that they will feel confident using it at home on their own.

  • If your child needs a Chromebook from school, they can bring theirs home with them. Cohort A will go home on Tuesday, September 15th and Cohort B (Thursday and Friday) will take theirs home on Friday, September 11 so that they have them for our first Wednesday Zoom meeting. More to come on this!

Supplies that are provided by FMS:

  • Masks - The district nurses have announced that only disposable or cloth masks will be permitted by staff and students. Each student will be provided with two EWSD cloth masks. Bandanas and neck gaiters will not be allowed. Your child will be given two masks at school.

  • School Materials: Each student will receive their own set of materials needed for class (pencils, crayons, markers, etc). Please do not send in materials from home. Thank you!

    • It might be beneficial to have some extra supplies at home for your child.

Supplies brought from home: (please label everything)

  • Backpacks: Each student should come to school with a backpack that has room for their Chromebook (if needed), a water bottle, and daily snack.

  • Water Bottle : Water fountains are only available for filling water bottles.

  • Headphones (Optional) I have a class set of headphones for the students to use. However, if your child would prefer to bring in their own they are more than welcome to.
