Welcome to Orchestra!

My name is Erika Rojas Requena and I am the 4th and 5th grade strings teacher at Grace N. Rogers Elementary School and Perry L. Drew Elementary School. This is my second year teaching in the district and I'm beyond excited to be a part of the wonderful music program in EWRSD. I currently teach at GNR on Mondays, Tuesdays and Wednesday mornings and at PLD Wednesday afternoons, Thursday and Fridays.

I graduated with my bachelor's degree in Music Education from William Paterson University, studying violin as part of my degree.

Besides taking great joy in teaching and being an educator, I like to spend my free time taking as many trips as possible with my family. We also love watching NY Rangers games together!

Course Goals & Expectations

The goal of this course is to give students the essential tools to begin their journey as young musicians. We will cover the basics of their chosen string instrument, such as note and rhythm reading, maintaining proper posture, and performance strategies that will help them become strong and confidant players.

Students are expected to bring their instrument, music folder with their method book, and a pencil to all their classes. They should aim to practice 3-4 times a week for 15-20 minutes.
