Allie Hamilton is a seventeen year old who came from a wealthy family in Charlestown. The real character that plays this role as Allie during her teenage years is Rachel McAdams. Allies character plays the role of a passionate young woman and is torn between her parents expectations and what her heart desires. Allie has a strong love for poetry and painting.  Allie is well-mannered and respects her parents choices. Allies parents didn't approve of Noah and tried too separate the two even though they were deeply in love. Allies parents cared a lot about her future.

Gena Rowlands plays a significant role in Allies after life. This part of the movie shows how Allie has grown. The character was put in a hospital because of old age and memory loss. This section that Gena was in showed the grown up version of Allies and showed how she looked when she had grown kids and a husband. Gena forgot everything and her husband read her a book based on their life so she would get her memory back there was flash backs in the movie to when she was young.

Ryan Gosling plays the act of the teenage life of Noah Calhuon. Noah find a girl he loves but she is a rich successful girl with a whole future ahead of herself and Noah on the other hand was a poor boy and not a super wealthy future ahead of himself.  Noah and Allie got into a big fight. After years of being apart from Allie Noah tries to win her back. Noah eventually got back with Allie and they were stronger together than ever. Noah was a seventeen year old and made a mistake getting into a fight with Alli eand he wrote to her for 365 days.

James Garner is the older version of Noah, James is the character reading the story about him and Allie trying to get her to regain her memory. James/Noah sits by Allie as she is growing older and staying with her through it all. Allie and Noah had a break but then came back even stronger than before and had a life together. Allie was diagnosed with Alzheimers wich caused her to loose her memory and Noah tried his hardest to help her through it.
