Class Policies

General:

• All students are expected to be supportive and respectful class members.

• Students are expected to be on time and prepared for class- including a charged iPad and earbuds.

• Students are encouraged to use their resources: google classroom, the class website, peers, and teachers for support.

Teacher Information:

• I am available during office hours by appointment.

• I am easily reached by email and make a point to reply as quickly as possible.

• I encourage students to initiate communication with me first. I work closely with students to teach them to advocate for themselves and their own needs.

• Parents should anticipate routine communication. I will do my best to make sure that parents are informed members of our class community.

• Absent Student Policy:

  • In the event of an absence, it is the student's responsibility to check the daily agenda to find out what was missed.

  • Class notes should be copied from another student

  • Students are expected to make-up all missed work and make every effort to be prepared for class upon their return to school.

  • It is the student's responsibility to see me for clarification after an absence.

  • Students have two school days for every one day absent to make up missed assessments; if they are not made up within that time frame, the grade will be entered as a zero.

Grading :

• I use a points system, meaning that assignments are weighted by points.

Formative Assessments Homework, Classwork, and Quizzes.

• Homework

  • I do not accept late NIGHTLY homework.

  • Students should anticipate some homework and will be expected to finish any unfinished classwork at home.

• Classwork

  • When I am teaching a new skill, I will give the students opportunities to practice in class, and I award effort based points for work towards skill mastery. Effort based scoring is designed to encourage students to work diligently and practice.

• Quizzes

  • Quizzes will be given frequently and will vary in point value.

  • Quizzes, particularly reading quizzes, are not always announced.

• Summative Assessments 75% Tests, Essays, and Projects.

  • There is a 5 point per day deduction for late work.

  • Per the district grading policy:

    • Students are required to complete all major course assessments.

    • Teachers shall communicate regularly and directly with the student and his/her family to ensure that all major course assessments are completed.

• I do not give extra credit.

• Often times, I allow retakes/rewrites. This is on a case by case basis and usually requires an additional teacher conference and/or a written reflection.
